The Lyrics

dodger stadium......9/18/06......
how mighty, those balls were kissed
the horsehide unwinds
a chill down my spine

my god, how those baseballs flew
if human, they would have bled
and surely be dead
i heard the whizz

you see the walls cleared
they just jump out of here
in the big inning

pitcher, they oughta change
to leave him is cruel
no batter is fooled

whatever was flung was stung
they just killed the ball
the orbs were splattered and mauled

you hear the crowd cheer
they were glad they were here
in the big inning

A modern-day "Casey at the Bat," but better poetry.

Very clever description and summarization of Monday night's game (for those of you who don't follow/don't care about baseball or the L.A. Dodgers in particular, on this past Monday night they had 4 CONSECUTIVE batters hit Home Runs in the 9th inning of the game...a game they were losing by 4 runs going into that inning. Including Monday's game this has only been 4 times in Major League history and the last previous time was in 1964. I've giving you 1point for each of those HR's and a fifth for Garciaparra's 10th Inning HR that won the game...5's ~ ~ ~

was more lost than usual in this baseball ode, until I read paul's explanation - even I, a baseball luddite, am staggered, especially under those circumstances - 555

A sweet, succinct write. You can find some serious pockets of gold here on AIR, and this is definitely a jewel.
