The Lyrics

Here's an oddity for you, more whimsical than funny. Many of us still have memories of our earliest years, being little kids, some of them involving creepy things that often woke us up in the middle of the night ... in terror. Here's my memory, involving a character I called Mr. Bungle, who somehow leapt off a storybook I had before I even knew how to read and, from time-to-time, crept into my dreams. At least I think I was dreaming! ;-)
MISTER BUNGLE

He was trippin’, Mister Bungle, he was creepin’ real tight
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
Saw him wander in the darkness, he was lookin’ for a bite
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
I soon began to cry and quickly jerked up in bed
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
And what ran through my mind when I first heard what he said

Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm

Googa looga goo na nay!
Googa looga goo na nay!

My pile of teddy bears they stood up seeing my plight
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
They started tramping ’cross the floor concerned and ready for to fight
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
I shrieked for mama lest I die
Her loving voice let out a sigh
"Mama’s coming, don’t you cry!"

Googa looga goo na nay!
Googa looga goo na nay!

The light flashed on my mama swooped me quickly out of bed
Mmmhmmm, Mmmhmmm
Arms that wrapped me with a warmth
Still radiates all through the night
Brings love to chase all things that cause us fright.

Googa looga goo na nay
Googa looga goo na nay

THEN SHE DANCED!

Pretty soon I hummed her tune and
Felt fears and tears fade under the moon
And my light grew soft and took on a pink glow.

Googa looga goo na nay!
Googa looga goo na nay!

Googa looga gone today!
Googa looga gone today

“Wondrous is our mother ship
She blasts our fears and tears away
Turns little boys into men so brave and strong"
I like whimsical. :-)

Aww... the power of MOM to banish all things fearsome! :D

You've been talking to adagio, haven't you? (No offense, A, just that you are the Queen of the metaphysically-mysterious, free-verse, stream-of-consciousness school of parody!) ... Whimsical OK by me -- been there, done that -- nice break from pedanticism, too :-) 555 for a very Calvin-and-Hobbes-esque scenario, monsters under the bed and all.

(if the sig didn't ring a bell, see TT's bio for explanation)

alvin - Yes, I think so too. Of course that little tot might not have seen the fun in it at the time, but isn't that the way life goes? Fun is something you realize you had after you've had it. ;-)

Fiddlegirl - You are so right. Moms have a very special place in heaven. :-)

Gamera - Your Gamera sig you mean? yes, I am pretty well versed on all the Japanese monster movies, if that's what you meant. Actually, I only remember adagio commenting once or twice so I'm not familiar with her style or writing preferences as of yet. Actually, I am pretty much bombarded with images, thoughts, and associations depending on where I am and I write about different things on different levels, mostly in a way that tickles me. I guess most people do the same although I'm not sure. I'm just amazed at the end result and it's probably just as well I don't know how the creator got there - although it is an intriguing question. :-).

Yep, that's what I meant, and I believe you're the first person I've ever met who knows of the Gamera series, other than the person with whom I watched them. They sooo *stole* the Gamera theme for the TV series, "Batman"!

Peeps ask me where I get my ideas -- (Stu McArthur at TT Micro-Bash parody: "What exactly do they put in the water on Planet Turtle?") ... I just say that the aliens insert them via their Paro-Beams from their mothership on the far side of the Moon. You got a better explanation? :D
