The Lyrics

So I am stuck in the past. I still love all the stuff from the nineties, especially gameboys, the tv shows, and pokemon. I know not all of this stuff is from the 90's but don't get to uptight about it. i am not that far off. So I have finally come to the realization that the nineties have died and what better way to honor it than in a song that it took me three days to parody
A long long time ago
I can still remember
How those TV shows used to make me smile
And I know if I turn it on
Pepperann and Recess will be gone
And it will make me very violent and hostile

But Year 2000 made me quiver
Y2K gave me a shiver
Felt as though I did not belong
An election had gone wrong

I can remember that I tried
To be happy, though inside
My feelings I would try to hide
The day the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
Nano Pets and Goosebumps by R. L. Stine
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

Did you ever watch hey dude
Or see Stephanie say "How Rude"
Cuz those were the good ole' days
Ash Ketchum never caught them all
Dave Foley was in kids in the hall (1)
Watching saturday cartoons in our PJs

So Enie Menie Mynie Moe
Play Tony Hawk on the Nintendo
Lion King and Toy Story
El-mo said "Tickle Me"

As I look back on the good ole days
Slip and Slides, they were the craze
It never ceases to amaze
Today, the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
When gas was not costing 2.95
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

Now for six years, it has been gone
But my childhood will still live on
It will always be a part of me
And as we danced to Brittany Spears
At home we watched the Wonder Years
Now Pimp my Ride is on MTV

We ended sentances with "PSHYCE"
We watched TGIF on friday nights
Carmen Sandiago
Was both a game and a TV show
Sub-Zero on Mortal Combat
Mark MaGuire came up to bat
Hey Arnold, Rugrats and All That
The Day the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
Drinking Surge gave us a small sugar high
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

Before X-Box or Playstasion 2
When the internet and caller ID were new
We spent the nights watching Home Alone
Wishbone was on PBS
I watched Darwing Duck, I must confess
And none of your friends had a mobile phone

Recording songs off the radio
Walking the dog with only a yo-yo
Was super cool to do
Oh but I never caught a mew (2)
We rented movies on VHS
Cootie Catchers, they were the best
I never failed a spelling test
The day the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
Beanie Babies are produced by TY
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

Will smith was the Fresh Prince of Belair
His cousin was such a square
We all knew the Theme song
Before the whole Myspace obsession
My GigaPet was my prized possesion
And we always seemed the type to get along

Oh and as I chewed on my bubble tape
I realised my big mistake
I am stuck in the past
And I think I am the last
As I realize its not 96
I can no longer play with skip it
And I get looks if I say "As if!"
I now know - the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
Its no longer cool - to use the word fly
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

I met a boy in the same boat as me
And I asked him if he wanted to see
My blue gameboy pocket
And I remembered fraggle rock (3)
One TV show - never forgot
And the dog, he's cool, his name is sprocket

And in my room, I sat and cried
I can't beleive the nineties died
No words could now be spoken
You might call me heartbroken
And the decade I admire most
Isn't here, its just a ghost
I guess I should adios
Today the nineties died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
It disappeared in a blink of an eye
This is the day the nineties have died
This is the day the nineties have died

So bye, bye 1990's goodbye
Generation- iPod Nation
Now of which I despise
Nano Pets and Goosebumps by R. L. Stine
This is the day the nineties have died
(1) Kids in the Hall- I know the series was in 1988, so its not really a nineties show but there movie Brain Candy came out in 1995(2) Mew- A mew is the most powerful pokemon. you cannot catch it without a game shark. I didn't have one, hence I never caught one.(3) Fraggle Rock - I know that it was an 80's show but it was sitll on in the nineties.

Fives for your fine encapsulation of a decade.

Never saw your stuff here before, so I assume you are a newbie. To pop in with an American Pie parody right out of the box is an achievement! I'm ignoring the pacing stumbles just because you obviously put a lot of thought into this. 555

Welcome newbie! Heckuva song to tackle first time. It was enlightening to hear from someone for whom the 90s evoke the same feeling as the mid 60s and early 70s do for me. I hope to see more of you.

Nice job! One bone to pick... I believe in your first iPod Nation stanza you also appear to denigrate Goosebumps and Nano Pets.... definitely 90's phenoms... or perhaps I just misunderstoon and they weren't to be included in the 90's knifing littany? Agree with everything Agrimorfee said.

Thanks AFW and TJC. TJC- I looked back at the song and it really does seem like I am making them seem hated. My bad. :) Thanks

Nice debut! But, wow, are the 90s gone already? I was just starting to warm up to them.

Nice job. It was an ambitious task to spoof this song, but it really paid dividends. Welcome to the community :-)

This has to be one of the best parodies I've seen here! 5-5-5 for bringing me back to the good ol' days, man! Having said that, you misspelled "Playstation", and there IS a way to get Mew without a Gameshark.
