The Lyrics

Well, I noticed that no one had ever used a Dan Hicks OS for a parody on the site...not that they are all that easy to work with...quite a few of them are already comedic in nature to begin with...but anyway, I've written a couple lately and here's one of them....the subject here, U.S. Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld has been an absolute disaster in this position. And this isn't just a "policy wonk" issue...the reality of the situation is that the only thing holding our military together right now is the guts & courage of soldiers...a situation that gets more difficult for them with each passing day. But still Rumsfeld and his boss, you-know-who fumble recklessly onward...no skin off their noses...but the guys who face the danger are now facing endless cycles of combat deployment...including the incredibly foolish, dangerous and cynical re-deployment of soldier's suffering mental disorders (22 soldier suicides in Iraq in 2005)...at least half of those were diagnosed and just given anti-depressant pills and sent right back into combat...and that, my friends, is absolutely inexcusable as far as I'm concerned...well, off my soapbox and on with my piece...
[brief instrumental intro]

Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense
Mister Rumsfeld, example of arrogance
Donald Rumsfeld, mishandled the Iraq War
Ain't it time that someone showed him to the door?

He's such an arrogant grandstander
posturing all the time
The Iraqi mess; his handwork
Just what is with this guy?

Donald Rumsfeld, had the Army rearranged
Disregarded Colin Powell; he got his way
Then he failed to provide order to the place
His performance in this War is a disgrace

Always dismissive when he answers
why things have not gone right
His decisions are disasters
Too many folks have died

His pet theories were applied

All objections tossed aside

Now they've caused much loss of life

'Cause they were not well designed

All that killing; Chilling

Still misleads us with his blather
Meanwhile, more soldiers die
How much more must we endure here?
Why doesn't he resign?

[longer instrumental break]

Situation still real bad there
every day more folks die
We're still in this mess, that's for sure
Rumsfeld, you should resign...

Traditionally, re-elected Presidents ask all their Cabinet officials for their resignations, effective the start of the next term on the following January 20, and then decide whether or not to accept the resignations. Counting that, Rummy has offered Dummy his resignation three times, and Bush has refused it all three times -- if Bush is telling the truth, and this time he might actually be. The problem is not that Rumsfeld should resign, which is obvious even to him -- no one ever said Rumsfeld wasn't brilliant, though he is certainly delusional. The problem is that Bush refuses to fire him, because that would be admitting a mistake, something he has consistently refused to do -- a mistake in itself.

Thanks, all. MP - True - and I started to lay that point out...and realized the "Pre-Comments" were turning into a full-fledged, multi-point rant...and if anyone wanted to read that they would be over on a political blog site of some sort...so I left it up to the reader to extrapolate the full logical extension. Thanks.
