The Lyrics

Well, I finally went to back the Espresso Gardens Coffee House in San Jose on my trip up North and performed two of my parodies yesterday (Thurs. Oct 21). Last time I was there (In January this year) I was "Not Ready For Prime Time". But I really did want give it a try sometime. I want to thank Rick & Mari D for the encouragement, assistance and support in helping me do this. You guys are the best! I posted a parody about the earlier experience ("I Stunk at Espresso Gardens") at that time. http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/crosbystillsnashyoung3.shtml
Well I finally sang my songs tonight
yes, I got up and tried a few
And I even played on kazoo
with Rick and Mari
Yes, I got up on the stage, alright
and the crowd gave me a hand
Did not sing as well as planned - but still I had fun

I was nervous, I was shaking
but at least I wasn't faking
'Cause I finally went and sang
down at the 'Gardens

Rick and Mari played behind me
and they helped me with my tunes
so my songs did not get ruined
by my bad singing
They saved me, yes, they saved my rear
Yes, they really helped to ease my fears
I was grateful they were there - kept me from stinking

Mouth was dry and knees were shaking
but still there was no mistaking
that the crowd enjoyed my songs
there at the 'Gardens

I sang badly; blew some phrases
but the crowd had smiling faces
had a ball doing my songs
there at the 'Gardens

When I finished up my numbers
the response was really great
all my gaffes did not detract, I felt elation
And 'though I did not really sing well I still was satisfied
I had gotten up and tried; that was the main thing
They were laughing and I could tell
that my stuff went over real well
had a blast doing my songs
down at the 'Gaaarrrddd-ens"

Paul sang "Aging Madonna" and "Boob at the Half", since Mari and I can tackle any Beatle song with little rehearsal. Got big laughs.

Thanks, Stuart. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again, Rick. I'm giving some thought to what I might do this coming Thursday night. I'm still planning on making it there. I'll be in touch with you in the next couple days.

Having been through this myself, I can understand perfectly the jitters you endured. 5's for courage and a fine parody

Johnny D/Dee Range - It really was a blast! Even though I grimaced inside on my several gaffes after the first couple I stopped worrying about it and just carried on. Fortunately, being a parody, people are laughing (hopefully) at the material and not even thinking much about your singing. When I saw the folks at the front table red-faced, laughing hard and having a good time even after I partially muffed a line I knew it was gonna turn out OK. I'm looking forward to trying it again on my way back from here (Northern California) later this week.
