Parody Song Title:

"Gerald R. Ford"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Verse:

Times were troubled.
Nixon steering the ship of state
Trying hard to avoid his fate.
On an iceberg called Watergate.
Then came Gerry
To the Whitehouse pool for a swim,
But the lights began turning dim
And the Whitehouse fell on him.

Chorus:

When Richard Nixon thrilled the nation
Announcing his resignation
It nearly floored Gerald R. Ford.
On August 9th the Whitehouse resident
Left us a brand new president
Upward soared Gerald R. Ford.
We're in a sorry state
Post Watergate, and the nation roars
While inflation soars.
With heavy sighs we turn our eyes
To the Whitehouse swimming pool.

Although he may not be a hero
Be grateful it isn't Spiro
Oh, thank the Lord, Gerald R.Ford!

I recall that my mother really liked Gerald Ford. He seemed to be an honest man and not particularly exciting, which was just what the country needed at the time. Pardoning Richard Nixon may have cost him election, but in retrospect, it was the right thing to do.
