Song Parodies -> Mike Walker's Lament
| Original Song Title: | "Night Rider's Lament" |
| Original Performer: | Chris LeDoux |
| Parody Song Title: | "Mike Walker's Lament" |
| Parody Written by: | Mike Walker |
This probably isn't a particulary well known song, but I figured that with it's title, it could have some potential. One thing you'll notice about my version is that it might seem kind of self-promoting, lol. Enjoy...
One night while I was song writin'
My next parody for Whatfreaks
A song not quite fit for AmIright
Then my brother just had to get noisy
Chorus:
And he asked me,
"Why do you try to be funny?
"All the songs that you've wrote are so gay.
"You ain't a'gettin' nowhere,
"And you're mentally impaired...
"Mike, you must have gone crazy somewhere."
Remember that song by Avril Lavigne?
He said my version's worse than that *wat's
He said I sure hit my low
With "Reality Shows"
And that "Achy Breaky Song" should just rot
[ Repeat Chorus ]
Ah, but he's never tried it on for size
He doesn't know just what he's missing
To spoofing such songs as in "Lyin' Eyes"
Or else others like "I'll Think Of Something"
Well, I wrote up the last of my lyrics
And I showed my brother the first draft
I said, "You might like this one, believe me..."
He just rubbed his ass with it and laughed
[ Repeat Chorus ]
Man, we all must be crazy out here...

Mike, I never heard of Chris LeDoux but I am well acquainted with Jerry Jeff Walker's excellent version of this song from his album "Ridin' High" from sometime in the late 1970's, I believe. It's a great OS and you did a fine job of pacing it and even though it's got a personal bent it's got a story-line that should resonate with a lot of writer's here. Certainly does with me. I think Jerry Jeff wrote the song, but I could be mistaken. Maybe this will spur me to look it up. i've got the vinyl LP around here somewhere. 5-5-5. Again, very fine job here.
Thanks. Actually, it was someone named Michael Burton who wrote the song...
Thanks, Mike Walker, for the "FYI". I hadn't gotten around to digging up the old vinyl album to check. But whoever wrote it sure wrote a wonderful song. Jerry Jeff delivers it wonderfully, if I ever run across Chris LeDoux's version I'll take a listen.
