Parody Song Title:

"You're John Wayne"

Parody Written by:

Porfle Popnecker

The Lyrics

You walked out of the desert
As you were ambling into the shot
Your hat inevitably the same old one
Kerchief in the same old knot
You had one hand on your rifle
As you talked, but not a lot
Somehow I knew that your name would be Hondo
Name would be Hondo, and

You're John Wayne
I'm glad this western movie's about you
You're John Wayne
I'm glad this western movie's about you
'Bout you
'Bout you

Oh, I saw you on the silver screen
In one of your biggest hits
Well, you wore an black patch covering one eye
Your character had true grit
And when you played Rooster Cogburn, then
They finally saw fit
In Hollywood, to award you an Oscar
Give you an Oscar, 'cause

You're John Wayne
They knew they couldn't do it without you
You're John Wayne
They finally did something about you
'Bout you
'Bout you

[SOLO]

I saw a scene, you driving a stagecoach
Driving a stagecoach, and

You're John Wayne
They couldn't make this movie without you
You're John Wayne
Can't wait to see this movie about you
'Bout you
'Bout you

Well, you helmed that film 'bout the Alamo raid
And your side finally lost
Then you flew your whole crew down to Mexico way
To where you got to be your own boss
Well, you went out playing with Bacall
Foreseeing our great loss
A shootist dying of cancer like you were
Cancer like you were, and

You're John Wayne
Don't look at many westerns without you
You're John Wayne
I'd love to see more westerns about you
'Bout you
'Bout you

Nice tribute. The man made some great films with John Ford, the best is "The Searchers," IMO.

Dare I say this was rather cute for a Porfle parody? Well done, yes, but seems like this might have been an early work. Am i right?

If you mean did I actually write it earlier than when I posted it last year, no. I was just in one of my cute moods at the time!

Y/Z – Funny lines, Porfle – the opening verse had me (and I don’t even particularly care for John Wayne that much), but that's neither her nor there. The parody was an excellent short synopsis of Sir Duke.

I enjoyed this parody. My dad is a huge Western fanatic and this made me think of him. Love John Wayne in "The Searchers"

(ABC) There's no doubting John Wayne's stardom, and as a movie buff I have seen most of his films, favorite is easily True Grit. However, I'm not really a big western fan (my grandpa is, so he would really love this) so some of this is lost on me. But I still really enjoyed it. Good work.

I was never a huge western or John Wayne fan, but I really liked the title switch and the pacing was pretty good too. Nice work!
