The Lyrics

This parody title is what it is about--imagine a nervous, self-centered apprentice wizard who has learned every magical spell there is (maybe he graduated Hogwarts or something) and is so hepped up about his level of magical abilities that he wants to show off exactly what he can do. But isn't sure what it is he wants to do. He must be a millenial (hehe). I have been watching The Good Place on NBC/Netflix recently, so I think this character was also inspired by Chibi, a character from that show who is constantly wracked by his inability to make a decision. I guess we all are like that sometimes, in some ways, eh?
I'll change to anything that I want me to be
Powers ofe wide-reaching range
I’ve been awarded the wizard’s top spot
Wait and see, you’ll be agog at what you'll see me change to
--three, four

I'll become the richest king who handles all the money
Will keep me busy four hours
Wait, I’ve decided there’s no place to hide it
I’d have to double-lock my towers
So then, the richest king isn’t what I will be
So something else might be good
Let me retry it—try something more quiet
Maybe it’d be best to be a buzzing fruit fly!

Buzzing over Earth
Eating everything I touch from the time of my birth
How nice!
On the other hand—smelling all the garbage really might not be so grand
No doubt about it, this might take awhile
To make decisions 'bout my style

I’m King Of Wizarding, now I desire to be
A cat—a fish—no, a car!
I’m feeling so split, I feel like a half-wit!
I just don’t know how to use these powers!

I could be a little dog, and go chase cats and freely poo
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Maybe I’ll just change my gender
And go into a different loo!
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
If I became a slug, I could slime down over you
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Or become a cool bartender
And make some sweet Mai Tais for you
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Or be a cooing dove as part of True Love's Christmas gift Day 2
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Or be an elevator who lifts up each day for you
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
I could be a thick shag rug and protect wood floors from goo
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Or become some nice suspenders
To hold up the pants for you
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Or be a coffee mug serving hot latte or soup
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Coulda been a real contender, ‘stead of a bum, which I am to you
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
Could you give me a big hug, I’m starting to feel really blue
(Ab-ra, Abracadabra!)
I think I’ll be a song composer and make sure this song is through…

I think that the OWN challenge is a magical experience how else could you explain your tune today and mine back in the Dr. Bombay round! Fun stuff!

Thanks!

Note to Self For Future Proofreading: The character's name was Chidi, not Chibi. (sigh)

You magically prolonged the song compared to the video you gave us, now I feel like I got off easy because I did four less varied repeats at the end (then again I should have been suspicious at how abruptly it ended). Good use of the original, captures the "why-don't-we/I"-theme of the original.

Thanks! In the full movie, the song continues over the credits for another 2-3 minutes!

Yeah, the song does have a "repeat ad nauseam" sort of fade-out in the film, doesn't it? Nice one on the repetitions, I gave up on that bit :)

Thanks Phil! Also a special shout-out to everyone (or is it just one?) who has made the point voting system on Amiright totally irrelevant and useless as a marker of quality and critical communication.
