Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

More 80's nostalgia...a story about a guy who is unrepentantly "old skool"...
I can't download "8 Mile"
Or "American Pie"
I don't own a PC like a regular guy
When my best friend informed me he's got DVD
I said "does it hurt?"; Betamax is the format for me!

I could buy an iPod
But it raises my hackles
Coz I like my tunes filled with pre-digital crackles
And my music collection stops at '83
I tell all my dates that 12 inches is OK for me!

Oh...dear, my microwave's broke
They stopped making spare parts
Back in '79
Oh...my camcorder's boxed up
It's not used anymore
Coz the weight hurts my spine

But my cell phone is great;
it's a 30lb car-kit
I don't care that it takes 'bout a week to recharge it
For ten minutes of talk-time from the battery
I won't swap it because I'm afraid of new technology

Oh...I still wear stone-wash jeans
I've got Cabbage Patch Kids;
Dress 'em like Princess Di....
So...plug the VCR in-
I've got tapes by the ton
Let's watch Magnum P.I.!

While my mates spend their time
Checking clips on Youtube
After 26 years I've just solved Rubik's Cube!
You may label me "retro"; mock my Atari...
Though my RAM's 16K, I'd prefer it that way
Coz I'm stuck in the last century...

What, BetaMax didn't catch on? Am I that far behind in the times? Loved the DVD line and many others =)

I'd give you a five, you could take it or leave it. But there would be one problem, you'd better believe it: You don't have the Internet, the five you won't see. So the most it would do is throw shadows at you, but this song got some laughter from me.

Brilliant as always, Kristof! As someone with 500 LPs sitting in my basement gathering dust, I can relate to this parody. Now it's time to take some pictures with my favorite manual-focus film camera...

Hey! HOW DARE YOU support Betamax! I have always been a VHS dude myself! I've gone one step further and got one of those personal video recorders (PVRs) now!

Jeff: Don't ask me, mate: I've still got reel-to-reel. Welcome back stranger, and thanks

Matty: I haven't seen Stu's (dang!) I'll check it out.

Mike: hehehehe. You should show that to Mamma Leone and Sergeant O'Leary.

Jack and Al: Cheers, guys!

Mason and McK: If you guys have a yard sale, give me a call!

AFW: Sarcastic? Moi? ;-) Thanks dude.

Jase: I actually owned a VHS (didn't everyone?) but my dad bought a Beta: the world's most expensive digital clock as he liked to describe it, Cheers mate

Thanks all!!!

Let me know when this comes out on 8-track so I can listen to it while I drive around in my AMC Gremlin. This was both cool and groovy.

I don't want to give this fives. I want to give it 10's. I'll PM Chucky to see if he'll revamp the scoring chart. (Of course. I'm just 'sucking up' here from my bunker in Iraq, guarding the WMD's, secure in the knowledge Kristof won't find me)

Clever reminiscing about stuff that we thought was pretty high tech at the time.

ha, towards the end there I thought I was reading my "1989" and then I read Matthias's comment, agreeing - your beginning is way different though - and it could only be postive to inspire an idea in the 2006 parodist of the year, so I'll keep believing it - brilliant lines and detail and the wit is as clever and dry as usual, KR - 555
