Song Parodies -> Iraq the Pins
| Original Song Title: | "I Write the Songs" |
| Original Performer: | Barry Manilow |
| Parody Song Title: | "Iraq the Pins" |
| Parody Written by: | Jim Rotondo |
I can't believe I'm doing a Manilow song, but the pun begged for it.
I’ve been bowling forever,
And I set the very first pin.
I put the lanes and ball returns together,
I am pin boy, and Iraq the pins.
Chorus:
Iraq the pins for Baghdad Bowl, I do.
Iraq the pins, that is, there’s only two.
Iraq the pins that make the bowlers cry.
Iraq the pins, Iraq the pins.
My lane survived the onslaught,
And I saved the only ten-pound ball.
Now, as you approach your first shot,
You’ll see a max of two can fall.
Chorus
Oh my pins, a second glance,
Awakens you from your sullen trance.
And I remember when there were many more.
Pins filled the lane,
But things have gotten insane.
Pins for me, pins for you,
Pins for you, pins for me,
It’s a Middle East catastrophe.
Chorus
I am pin boy, and Iraq the pins.
And I set the very first pin.
I put the lanes and ball returns together,
I am pin boy, and Iraq the pins.
Chorus:
Iraq the pins for Baghdad Bowl, I do.
Iraq the pins, that is, there’s only two.
Iraq the pins that make the bowlers cry.
Iraq the pins, Iraq the pins.
My lane survived the onslaught,
And I saved the only ten-pound ball.
Now, as you approach your first shot,
You’ll see a max of two can fall.
Chorus
Oh my pins, a second glance,
Awakens you from your sullen trance.
And I remember when there were many more.
Pins filled the lane,
But things have gotten insane.
Pins for me, pins for you,
Pins for you, pins for me,
It’s a Middle East catastrophe.
Chorus
I am pin boy, and Iraq the pins.

Very, VERY creative effort Jim. My fav of the day!!!!
Got even more clever at the end, when it became apparent that "pins" could be a metaphor for "people" -- or am I just imagining things? Score = 300 (that's 555) but could we get some actual choruses instead of "chorus"? Shouldn't be hard for a writer this clever.
Thank you Sirs, and I promise to write out every chorus henceforth.
Jim, I might not have been clear enough before. What gets you extra credit here is writing *different* parody choruses each time, even though TOS repeats the chorus. Chance to show off your wit, make us laugh 3x as much, etc. Great opportunity! ... and btw, a *really* good title switch and concept.
Hmmm, 3x the laughs with differing Choruses...OK, excellent advice Tommy, but don't forget I also composed "Lazier Than You"!
(LOL!) Lazier than a turtle? I doubt it! (LOL!)
clever i liked the the pun
