The Lyrics

The idea for this one came to me while driving down to Brighton, as I've been doing for the last few weeks - in case you wouldn't guess from the song, Hove and Portislade are towns just along the seafront from Brighton
We're not in Hove
You just don't get it
It's just a little place we've driven through
And just becuase
Think I fouled up
Don't get me wrong, this isn't Portislade
We're not in Hove, oh no
I'm not lost...

I saw a signpost
That said "Diversion"
You know that it sure as hell diverted me
So don't you ask me
To turn right back
I know you know I know that we're on the right track
We're not in Hove
I'm not lost...

Oh, was that the A23?
Oh, I took a short cut
Oh, was that the A23?
No, I took a short cut

I've got an atlas
But it's at home
OK, OK, so it ain't much use lying there
So don't berate me
And don't get stressed
Thank you, I'm sure I don't need GPS
We're not in Hove, oh no
I'm not lost

Be quiet! be quiet!
Men don't need maps
Men don't need maps

We're not in Hove
Oh, just forget it
Do you think I don't know where we've driven through?
So what d'you mean
That this is Brighton?
Don't get me wrong, it isn't Portislade
We're not in Hove, oh no
I'm not lost...

My wife and I lived in "Brighton" (the American version) for years......I know, I know, that's neither here nor there...... 555

We needed to have a Nor'easter with a sense of humor to finally make a parody of this classic hit. Good job! 555

You know, I was all excited because I thought this song was about Brooklyn - 555 anyway. I would imagine any future parody entitled "Thames"l probably isn't about the street in Fells Point (Baltimore), right?

Phil, this was great! I 'lost' myself in laughter! (Maybe someone should do an American version about the podunk town of Gove, Kansas).

Maps are OK, just don't ask me to stop to ask for directions. Phil, you've located a very clever parody.

:-) Thanks, all - just realised I left out the bit that mentioned "Devil's Dyke" (a name to conjure with, if ever there was one)

I was hoping to find "Brighton and Hove Albion" worked in there, Phil! Maybe next time!

They weren't playing at home... anyway I always thought they ought to play all in white, sort of a Brighton and Hove Albino

This brings back so many memories - the time I got lost looking for a village near Preston, the time I drove home from Blackpool and managed to completely miss the junction for the M55. I never thought anyone would write a parody about it, and I liked this one.
