Original Song Title:

"If I Were A Carpenter"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Tim Hardin

Parody Song Title:

"If He'd Stayed A Carpenter"

Parody Written by:

Alvin Rhodes

The Lyrics

if he'd stayed a carpenter
instead of a crazy
if they buried him, would he stay
if he weren't a deity

if a preacher weren't his trade
would they still bind him
carrying a cross they'd made
guess they wouldn't mind him

saved the world through selflessness
saved the world's tomorrows
followers felt helplessness
while others felt no sorrow

yes, they nailed his hands to wood
but he still loves thee
answer him, lord, yes, you're good
i put you above me

would he still be here
at his saw mill grinding
turning gray, his flowing locks
his long life, unwinding

if he'd stayed a carpenter
instead of a crazy
if they buried him, would he stay
if he weren't a deity
if they buried him, would he stay
if he weren't a deity

I think I see...you're asking a big 'what if'? He, of course, would still be the Deity, and since all these events were already written down in the Old Testament, He was fulfilling them, but changing others, like diet, etc.

That was different--I always wanted to be a carpenter, they make good money and never have problems keeping in shape. . .555
