Original Song Title:

"If I Were A Carpenter"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Tim Hardin

Parody Song Title:

"If I Were A Carpenter"

Parody Written by:

Alvin Rhodes

The Lyrics

if i was a carpenter
and you were a walrus
would you wish this sand swept away
if the maidens called us

if the oysters were afraid
would they stay briny
get up from that unmade bed
follow here behind me

talk of kings and cabbages
sealing wax, to borrow
oceans hot with savageness
pigs may fly tomorrow

get them oysters running good
lord, they're so lovely
eat 'em up, babe ?...yes i would
wash 'em down with bubbly

if it seems too dismal, yeah
as we sit here dining
do they miss their little house
little lambs ain't whining

if i were a carpenter
and you were a walrus
its so quiet here anyway
it was once so raucous

all the oysters come out to play
and joined our caucus

What does this parody mean? I don't understand it. It's totally off the wall. It makes no sense. It's wacky and insane. It's positively surreal. It's absolutely devoid of logic. It gets three fives.

It does seem cryptic and it does have a lot of keywords that I used in recent parodies so maybe it's a message for me. Or maybe alvin playing with me. Only alvin knows. 5's.

So "I Am the Walrus" is Lennon's walrus, and I read an essay somewhere calling "Fixing a Hole" McCartney's carpenter. Works for me. Clever Carroll carol, Alvin.

It diesn't quite make sense - that makes it funny. I have an idea: See where you would go with "If I were a contractor." if you ever had to have your house fixed you would know what I mean.
