The Lyrics

While commenting on one of my laments to lost love, Tommy Turtle suggested trying "Happy Together". Of course, in my case, it came out "Edmund Fitzgerald". November 10 marks the anniversary of the 1975 loss of this magnificent ship and its crew in a storm on Lake Superior. Let us remember them and all who give their lives working for a living and to provide the material goods that make life better for everyone.
Imagine ship and crew, ore too
We think about her hatches tight, and then we write
Remembering the ship we lost
November night, the Edmund Fitzgerald

They took a risk that day, a stormy clime
But with their vast experience, all would be fine
Until the radar screen went blank, and left them blind
The Edmund Fitzgerald

Gitchee Gumee claiming the lives of
The men, all twenty-nine
Chippewa have told us
These guys will be gone, 'til end of time

Ship and crew, the gale winds blew
The giant vessel tossed like dice, a hatch broke through
The mighty Lake Superior, a witch's brew
For Edmund Fitzgerald

Coast Guard searching, maybe they'll locate
A clue, the loss of life
Grim news to each man of
The Lakes, also to, his child and wife

The sound it made, tattletale
No matter how they steered the Fitz, the ship would fail
The only safety seemed to lay, in Whitefish Bay
For Edmund Fitzgerald

Gitchee Gum, its vict'ry sings
While down below, Ontario, takes in some things
And far away, in Michigan, a church bell rings
For Edmund Fitzgerald
The Edmund Fitzgerald

Trapped in the weather
The perished together
She vanished forever
The Edmund Fitzgerald

The Edmund Fitzgerald
A great ship imperiled
Remembered forever

What have I done... I've created a monster... But this was a monstrously good parody.

I went back and looked it up. Tommy Turtle did a "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" to "American Pie" in October 2010, a year before you and I started this fad.

Masterful job. Not really familiar with story or original, but this was some fine subbing on a favorite oldie of mine. The serious memorial intro was a nice touch. 555s

For some reason 'ore too' just cracked me up. Good job!

See if I ever give you another song idea! :P

Seriously, excellently done, starting off with a bang as Meriadoc said, but great subs throughout, and props for "noticing" that the ship's name scanned to "Happy Together". Nice timing for the tribute. 555
[That's how many more of these will no doubt follow. :-( ]

Thanks for the shout-out and for the credit for the 2010 parody. Looking forward to when all of the one-way smooshers start doing them both ways. TT did APie to TWOTEF that same day; can't wait for your version of doing "Happy Together" to TWOTEF. ;-D

It day and night seems that I so often dream
Of how happy I'd be were it you--me
If we were to wed, what great life to be led!
We'd be happy and not ever surly

OK, there's your five-minute head start. Go for it! ;)
