The Lyrics

I still enjoy the sweet voices, elegant moves and deceptively precise vocal arrangements of the Supremes, especially their early hits. They also looked great and deserved all the spectacular success that was theirs in the mid-sixties. But it always struck me that without certain words, their hits would be practically instrumentals. Here's a double-header to show you what I mean:

WHERE DID MY WORDS GO?

Baby baby, baby words leave me
Ooh please don't leave me, write song myself
I need some learnin', learnin' learnin'
No words inside me, ooh words inside me, I need words so bad

New verse another part (baby baby) need ABC
With some learning of (basic basic) word literacy
(Baby baby, ooh baby baby)

Now that words I render, so helpless me
Words now wanna leave, (baby baby) ooh, they wanna leave me
(Baby baby, ooh baby baby)

Ooh baby baby, where did my words go?
Ooh how I want them (baby baby), I don't know any more
(Baby baby, ooh baby)

Baby, baby what words do you know?
How can you stop babies, (baby baby)
Without words you just don't know (baby baby)
I need some learnin' learnin' learnin'
Baby inside me, ooh deep inside me (baby baby), no I don't mean that

Here comes another part (baby baby), I need the perfect word
But now that I need it (baby baby), baby's all that comes to mind
(Baby baby ooh baby)

Baby baby, baby words leave me
Can say only baby all by myself
Ooh, baby baby, where is my baby

BABY LOVE

'Baby' word, love 'baby' word
I need ya oh how I need ya.
You may think my lyrics bad
Laugh at me and leave me sad
Tell me what did I do wrong
Singing 'baby' all night long?

'Cos 'baby' word, my 'baby' word
Dismissin' ya no permission, nah
Instead of wakin' up
Meaningfulness takin' up
(Don't throw that word away)
Baby baby here to stay
Need ya, need ya
'Baby' love, ooh 'baby' love

(instr. break)

'Baby' word, ooh 'baby', love
Why must be this under-rating of?
I use some others too
I say 'love' and I say 'ooh'
Why you do me like you do?
I get this need:
Baby, baby, ooh, ooh

So I told you once again my love
It feels warm, just face it love
Don't throw that word away
'Baby' will do me this way
Still baby like I used to be
Lit'racy has got the best of me

My love, ooh 'baby' love
I need ya, ooh how I need ya
Why you do me like you do?
Do I make sense to you?
I'm still in love with 'ooh'

Baby, baby, ooh the word's in me
The word's in me, ooh ooh baby love
Don't throw our word away
Don't throw our word away

Creative and funny idea...and where would us Parodee scratchers be without those alphabet blocks to play with, also...Happy TeeGee Day

Thanks AFW. We don't observe Thanksgiving here but good wishes welcome. Btw, did you mean to block comments for your 'Mr Food' parody? DK gentleman in question, but it's a great song and your subs flowed nicely.

Hilarious concept well executed - I got a bit bewildered by all the 'baby baby's in those OSs as well! Seems like the modern equivalent is 'Yo' and 'one time'... 'progress', eh? ;^) I'm rating this a 555

This was great, I particularly laughed at "Baby inside me, ooh deep inside me (baby baby), no I don't mean that" :)

Thanks, guys, my little revenge trip for all the lyrical banaiity that came out of Motown in those days - and is still prevalent in a lot of so-called 'contemporary r & b'.
Wendy - They're still producing a lot of babies, but I guess another modern equivalent would be 'beeyutch'. Don't listen enough to know what the beeyutches are calling their gentlemen suitors these days.
Peregrin - thanks, I was hoping someone would pick up on that line

Great concept. Agreed with Pippin on that 'don't mean that' line in particular.

Comments put me in mind of an episode of LA Law where the hip-hop group changed the words of the Motown group's song from "Walkin' in the Rain with My Baby" to "Walkin' in the Rain Makin' Babies"...
