The Lyrics

OS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SubpzqswJRE Story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifty_Shades_of_Grey_(film)
Anastasia Steele was just a college girl.
Then she met a kinky man who rocked her world.
It was easy then to tell he was rich,
Easy then to field his first pitch,
And to hear his sultry voice
Asking, “Be my b++++.”

And today he’ll whet her appetite.
Today she’s in his sexy sight.
Today she won’t put up a fight.
Fifty Shades of Grey.

Christian Grey had never let someone draw near.
He had never known true love or called one “Dear”.
It was easier to just dominate,
Sport his ties of ash or slate,
Woo her with expensive gifts
So she’d capitulate.

And tonight he’ll cinch the cuffs on tight.
Tonight he’ll hoist her to the heights.
Tonight they’ll re-invent “Twilight”.
Fifty Shades of Grey.

(instrumental break)

It’s not easy for him to…let her care
Nor his secret shame to share.
He’d rather project his pain
On her derriere.

So again he’ll hold the whip so tight.
Again he’ll beat her black and white.
Again they’ll S and M all night!
Fifty Shades of Grey.

Fifty Shades of Grey…

Melanie! Excellent, and I will tell you why. When the books came out, everyone was raving about them. I borrowed one off a woman at work (when she was finished dog-earing all the pages, that is). I found it incredibly predictable and formulaic. I struggled through half the book and gave it back her. I recall that my review was that I could write better soft porn that that. She seemed a bit uncomfortable at that point but maybe it was just me and not my comment. Ha ha, but I digress. I hear the movie is similarly pedestrian. YOUR parody though, i like, 'cos it puts crap on the whole concept. EEK, at least, I think that's what you were trying to do :) Either way, you have said in a few verses what the book danced around for endless pages. LOVE the ending to the first verse :)

Very tastefully articulated 'Portrait of Whoreian Grey' you've whipped up, Mel! (I appreciated your sly vampire ref having recently learned that the book began as Twilight fan fiction)

Perfect choice of OS to use for this! You captured the essence of this very controversial issue most skillfully!

Thanks for the feedback, people! I didn't read the books, but I saw the movie on a GIrls' Day Out the day after Valentine's Day. Here's my review at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2N9IDTCQ0LIHQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00NCDQDUI

I was working on my take on what I have heard of the book and movie. Weather kept me from my computer for a couple of days. I think I understand enough of the story now to comment on it, not that that would stop me. "Shades of Gray" was always my favorite Monkee's song. Doesn't get much airplay on the oldies stations anymore.

Oops! Although I wrote "Fifty Shades of Grey" (with an E) in the song, I accidentally typed "Fifty Shades of Gray" (with an A) in the title! Oh, well!

Loved the line: Again they'll S and M all night. :D
