The Lyrics

Famous pro golfer Phil Mickelson has certainly shanked one into the bunker of controversy. He speculated that he might move from his native California due to the cumulative raises in federal, state, and local tax rates. For this, he was roundly denounced nationally, most notably and vituperatively by Syracuse University Professor Len Burman. Although his words were strictly hypothetical, Mickelson made a series of lengthy apologies for his words. Nevermind that most PGA Tour players, most notably Tiger Woods, already live in income tax-free Florida and Texas. Nevermind that Mickelson didn't actually move from California. But in my opinion, it was not the pressure from class warfare adherents that prompted these profuse apologies. It's likely that he was "leaned on" by the PGA, which in the post-Tiger Woods-scandal era is anxious to avoid anything that smacks of negative publicity. Phil...next time use your sand wedge to get out of trouble. ;D

Taxes have gone up - Mickelson feels pinch.
O. and Jerry Brown (1) - acting like the Grinch.
Phil may want to move - that's what we've heard him say.
Californian fleeing - to save some of his pay.

Big Phil makes more than - one hundred mill a year.
So Phil let it slip that he - might want to get out of here.
But leftists all across the nation - demanded he repent.
Rich scum should pay taxes - at sixty-three percent!

(Alto flute solo)

What compelled Big Phil - to apologize?
Tiger moved away - none did criticize.
P.G.A. abhors - all bad publicity.
Californian fleeing? Then do it silently!

Californian fleeing - "Shut Up" says P.G.A.
Californian fleeing - the left says you must pay.
Californian fleeing - Rick Perry (2) says "Come stay!".

(1) - California Governor E.G. (Jerry) Brown, who raised the state income taxes. (2) Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry, who threw gasoline on the firestorm by inviting Mickelson to relocate in Texas. At least Phil isn't leaving his country, unlike France's Sarkozy and Depardieu.

Well expressed, OMR (although my source - http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/20647334/phil-mickelson-regrets-airing-opinion-on-taxes - indicates that Phil “only” made $45 million last year). I would say that we California voters shanked one when we passed the tax increase with Proposition 30 last November. Tax increase advocates appear to be unaware of the unintended consequences of the increases. Wealthy people and businesses tend to either move out of high income-tax states or not to move into them. I am not in Mickelson’s tax bracket, so I will probably stay in California, but I would not blame Phil for moving to Florida or Texas.

I agree...With that kind of income why just move to Texas or Florida...buy a castle in Spain, and live it up!...Great job...shows how self minded the super rich become.

These emigrants are merely the more famous ones. When welfare states like California and France start soaking "the rich" people with income taxes (meaning the productive people; don't expect rich parasites like Kerry, Moore, or Soros to pay any extra), leftists always act so surprised when wealthy businesses and individuals then flee in droves to capitalistic and therefore more hospitable places such as Texas and England. Mickelson's only mistake was saying what he was doing out loud. Millions of others are quietly doing it without saying it, and it serves those fools Brown and Hollande--and the fools who elected them--right.
