The Lyrics

"I fear that what Michael Pacholek has done is to awaken a sleeping parody writer, and to fill him with a terrible resolve."--Yamamoto Isoroku
Would you like to sail on Superior, Superior this fall
In a giant ship on Superior this fall
We could float across the lake together, you and I
Or, we could die, we could die

Down, down in the deep
Goes Edmund Fitz, the Edmund Fitz, good-bye

The lake's a deadly place when the autumn storms arrive
Stare danger in the face when the autumn storms arrive
Lots of things go wrong when squall lines race across the sky

And we could die, we could die

Down, down goes the ship
The Edmund Fitz, the Edmund Fitz is gone

She split asunder when the old welds gave way
We search in vain for a light to guide us
No chance that we'll survive this emergency
The clouds converge to hide us
A hidden shoal beside us

Death is waiting here on Superior this fall
Draw our final breath on Superior this fall
The waves burst through as lightning streaks across the sky

And we might die, we might die

Down, down goes the ship
The Edmund Fitz, the Edmund Fitz, bye-bye

Bye-bye

Down, down and away
One source believes the Edmund Fitzgerald may have struck an uncharted shoal at some point in its travels, eventually causing the hull to weaken and fracture. The Edmund Fitzgerald was of welded, rather than riveted construction. Some investigators speculate the flexing of its exceedingly long hull contributed to metal fatigue and caused some of the welds to separate.

Good take on the song. I've only heard both songs in recent history

Patrick - A better series than The Twilight Zone! If you're running out of songs, I think we wrote Didn't We. Great opening quote too. ;D
