The Lyrics

Last one of these triplet dates in my lifetime...
It happens once a cen'try, and the day's a thrill
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12
So many twelves, I've got some time to kill
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

Yeah, a dozen eggs
Yes, some donuts, fresh
And roses, all long-stemmed
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

The number of apostles, tribes and angry men
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12
The days of Christmas, the drummers sent
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

Yeah, the inches ruled
Yes, the years in school
And size of font I use
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

[Sax solo with background singing]

The count of fluid ounces and the beers per pack
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12
A. A. steps till I am back on track
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

Yeah, the months on watch
Yes, half-tones per oct.*
And the hours on the clock
It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12

[Fade on: Yeah... / It's 12/12/12, yes, it's 12/12/12...]

I can only give you half of 12, minus 1. No more triplet dates. We'll have to settle for the next square root day on 4/4/16.

A one day only song, but what a day. Very timely and clever. A reminder of the importance of twelve.
John Jenkins - December 12, 2012 - Report this comment
Very clever, but I think there were more than 12 apostles.

@John Jenkins: Ha ha! Very enlightening article! I guess I better go back and have a little talk with those nuns who misled me. If we're going to get picky, however, one can buy eggs, donuts, roses and beer in quantities other than 12, beer comes in containers other than 12 fl. oz., yardsticks have 36" and tape measures have many more than that, many people go to school for more or less than 12 years, I sometimes use fonts other than 12 point, some watches don't have any months on them, there are many more tribes than 12, and I'm sure there are many, many more than 12 angry men.

Lots of 12 things. Interesting that Mayan day is on 12/21 - the twenty-one being 12 backwards. I just submitted another Mayan parody - look for it tomorrow as a followup to your The Mayans Freak Tonight parody from Monday.

How did you know you'd be seeing comments on 12/13 - knew something we didn't, you sly devil? Clever and cute. Fave line 'A.A. steps before I'm back on track ...' 555s gives you three left over.

Great concept on a fave OS. In addition to LL's pick, I liked the half-tones per oct.
Vote: 0101 0101 0101, or, among the piano tones mentioned, I could just vote "F". It's way too good for a "C".

Thanks everyone!

@Timmy: Looking forward to seeing your take on the subject.
@Lifeliver: That was my favorite line too - I wish I could do more of those where I use one line to set up a joke and then follow it with a punchline. It's something I've been working on, but still haven't gotten very adept at it.
@Tommy Turtle: Long time, no see. Will you be coming out of hibernation soon? Thanks for the link - I left a v/c there.

Don't forget the twelve days of Christmas. And there are 12 signs of the zodiac too. And twelve corresponding 'planets' even though they haven't discovered two of them yet... ;)
Tommy Turtle @ Meriadoc and Leough - December 13, 2012 - Report this comment
@ Meriadoc: Line 11: "The days of Christmas, the drummers sent". ;)

@ Leough: Yes, and oddly enough, it's Meriadoc who is to blame. Exactly when is sort of being "negotiated" ATM. (This will all make sense when the parody eventually appears.)

I was so overwhelmed that I got out-picky-ed that I had to have a 16 ounce brew after reading your response.

It occurred to me that you may have one more chance: There are slightly more than 13 lunar months in a year, so if you can find a lunar-based calendar somewhere, you can do 13/13/13 next year.

Oh, and that "out of hibernation" was posted today (Friday, Dec 14 Chucky Time).
