| Parody Written by: | Steve Kalafut |
Soviet cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev goes aboard the Mir space station. Meanwhile back on Earth, the Soviet Union dissolves and is replaced (for a while, anyway) by the Commonwealth of Independent States. Krikalev then returns to a new country.
Flew down from Earth orbit on the Station Mir
Soyuz landed where it ought
I cannot believe how things have changed down here
Am I the last cosmonaut?
I'm back in the CIS
Don't know how we got this mess, boy
Back in the CIS, yeah
Been away so long they had to change the name
Gee, it's good to be earthbound
Leave it 'til tomorrow to enjoy my fame
Tell me what's been going down
I'm back in the CIS
Don't know how we got this mess, boy
Back in the CI
Back in the CIA?
Back in the CIS
Well the Baltic states said they wanted out
They left the rest behind
The other twelve try to work it out
Now Yeltsin's always on my my my my my my my my my mind
Oh, come on
(instrumental)
I'm back in the CIS
Don't know how we got this mess, boy
Back in the CIS, yeah
Well the Baltic states said they wanted out
They left the rest behind
The other twelve try to work it out
Now Yeltsin's always on my my my my my my my my my mind
Oh, show me round the Caucasus, they're way down south
Tajiks and the Khazak Turks
Let me hear your perestroika ringing out
Gorbachev is out of work
I'm back in the CIS
Don't know how we got this mess, boy
Back in the CIS, yeah
Oh, let me tell you honey
Soyuz landed where it ought
I cannot believe how things have changed down here
Am I the last cosmonaut?
I'm back in the CIS
Don't know how we got this mess, boy
Back in the CIS, yeah
Been away so long they had to change the name

The CISsy's didn't last long did they? For a brief time, one CIS member, Kazakhstan, a newly independent country, found itself in possession of the worlds third largest nuclear weapons arsenal: 1,400 warheads, 100 SS-18 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, 40 Tu95m long range bombers and over 300 cruise missiles. Needless to say, the US helped them to destroy them very quickly.
Cute idea for a parody! :-)
