Parody Song Title:

"In Trenches Played"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

World War I (aka The Great War or The War to End All Wars)
In trenches played, the enemy was never far away
The Huns hit us all night and day
Oh, the price we paid

Maybe a blighty wound and got lucky
Death was hanging over me
In trenches played with Huns to slay

Last came the Doughs, in battle thrown, from far away
A familiar song, sung all day long, to Huns dismay

In trenches played, disease and brown rats that gnawed away:
An arm, a foot, maybe a leg
We longed for the grave...

Blow-by-blow, Maxim shows, blood was sprayed
We moved along, it felt all wrong, but the flag still waved

In trenches played, the wounded, oh, not many saved
Stormtroopers comin' for a trench raid
Oh, believe me, I have prayed...

Mum! mum, mum, mum, aaargh!!!

Note: For those not familiar with WW1 terminology:

Huns= Great War derogatory for Germans, perceived as barbarians
Blighty Wound= a severe wound, but not enough to kill you... just send you home
Doughs= short for US Doughboys, originated from donut consumption
A familiar song= "Over There"
Maxim= German Maxim MG-08 Machine Gun
Stormtroopers= Stosstruppen or Shock Troops sent to sweep the trenches with the world's first SMGs, grenades, and other weapons. Different from Hitler's SA Stormtroopers who were street thugs.

Thanks all! Oh btw, World War I WAS of "Yesterday" which makes the topic appropriate.

^ How about doing the Spanish-American War to a cha-cha-cha? Or the Irish War of Independence to "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling"? Or The Falklands War to "Down Argentine Way"? So many catchy tunes, so many lovely wars, but so little time.

I've done the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Gulf Wars, Falklands, and individual actions and roles of individual combat aircraft. I like the first idea with Teddy Roosevelt. But I usually do weapons more... TY for suggestions :))
