The Lyrics

A while back I did a "smush" of "Eleanor Rigby" and "Baba O'Riley" called "Baba O'Rigby" where I told the story of Eleanor Rigby using the song "Baba O'Riley", but I forgot to do the reverse smush -- so here I go
Aaah, look at all the wasted teensters
Aaah, look at all the wasted teensters

Ellen O'Reilly
Gets her whole back in her living while toiling away in the fields
Farms for her meals
Stands in a furrow
Having no need for forgiveness or proof she is right
No need to fight

Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all come from
Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all belong

Sally McKenzie
Throwing some dirt on a fire as she takes my hand
Travels cross land
Looking at her crying
Raising her eyes in the night when there's happy ones near
Exodus here

Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all come from
Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all belong

Aaah, look at all the wasted teen-sters
Aaah, look at all the wasted teen-sters

Ellen O'Reilly
Couldn't get together before she just got too old
Left in the cold
Sally McKenzie,
Taking a look past my shoulder as she walks in haste
We're all a waste

Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all come from
Oh, the teenage wasteland
Where does it all belong

(And for anyone who is a newby, here is the reverse smush, "Baba O'Rigby". These, BTW, are kind of fun and not that hard to do)

Out here in the church
She's left in a lurch
She's wearing a face that she keeps hidden
He don't need to write
Sermons to incite
Folks don't seem to need forgivin'

None cried; none said good-by
'twas only lonely person
Father wipe that dirt
It's Eleanor's last hurt
Walk from her gravesite
And don't look past your shoulder
The desolation's clear
It's loneliness they fear
Get them together
Before their lives grow colder

Lonely people
They're all the lonely people
Lonely people (oh yeah)
Lonely people
They're so lonely!!

"Looking at her crying" is a typo; should be "Look at her crying"

Great to see a good old fashioned smoosh. It's been a while. Very well crafted. Never realized the similarities between the original songs. The images of wiping dirt, and wasted lives they have in common. Though I think the original meaning of "wasted" in Baba O'Reilly had more to do with intoxication than desolation. The hunt for gems such as this is what keeps me coming back to AIR.

Hey, this is complete GENIUS! Wish I could give it 777, but I guess I'll have to settle for 555.

Thank you Amanda. The source of all this was a thread on a comic website that imagined -- What if the Beatles and The Who had merged and called themselves the "Whotles" Then people put down some song titles and the best one was "Baba O'Rigby" And I knew almost immediately I could do a parody of that. That was easy; the genius was in the title and the idea of the Whotles.

Hi Lennie, Good work. I prefer the Baba Origby version though.
