Instead of HSR (High Speed Rail) an inventor has proposed travel via Hyperloop which would be a long air tube stretched 400 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Passengers would be placed in large capsule size tubes and then be sucked at 700 mph to their destination. The tube would be almost airless with any air sucked from the front and pushed to the rear. The capsules would be attracted by magnetic forces. The tubes could run over or underground. The cost of $6 Billion would be far less and safer than HSR schemes. The idea originates with the suction tubes found in Costco and some offices for transfer of documents and money drops. This version would transport people. And its not that radical compared to Australia's fromer plan to build a vast tunnel running across that nation with a tube containing an X-wing rocket train at nearly Mach 1!!!
