For Memorial Day. Anyone that remembers Vietnam should recall the M79 grenade launcher with the wood furniture that fired 40mm grenades. It actually was developed in the 1950s, based on simple shotgun principals and was break-open breech loaded. A simple weapon with a crude sight, it was made of aluminium alloy and had rifled grooves inside for accuracy. Max range was 400m but most of the time was used under 100m w/o the sight (which was flimsy and often broke in the field). This used to cost around $950- I wonder what one is worth today? Btw, this was NOT the first military handheld grenade launcher (non-rifle cup discharger type). As far back as the 17th century there were black powder launchers! And in WW2 the Germans fielded the 27mm Sturmpistole and variants...
