The Lyrics

This song deals with the theory that The Edmund FitzGerald sustained a fracture along her hull by hitting The Six Fathom Shoal in Lake Superior at 3:30 PM which contributed to her sudden and rapid foundering four hours later
Now somewhere in the ice water mansion of Superior
There lies the hull of Edmund FitzGerald
Cause one day his captain set out from the western shore
Twenty six thousand tons of ore
Old Witch didn't like that
Said I'm gonna sink that scow
So one day she blew up a storm
Sent to their doom on the 'ol Gitchie Goom

Now Edmund Big Fitz, on the bottom he sits
And nobody's sure of the reason
Edmund had come on a late autumn run
With a captain and crew that was seasoned
The captain they feel, had damaged Ed's keel
By striking the shoal near Isle Michpic
This made Ed's rail break and sit low in the lake
And made him a mark for the Old Witch

Now she and her gale, of a hurricane scale
Were whipping up seas quite gigantic
Edmund was thrown but was holding his own
Said the captain in voice quite pedantic
But the Old Witch was grave, she sent three rogue waves
And Ed's bow was forced 'neath the surface
Aaaah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah .....

Now the old cook was grave, knew Ed couldn't be saved
And proceeded to talk to the sailors
Crew said, "Cookie can we eat"
Cookie said in a tone of defeat
"I say fellas, I say fellas now it's been good to know ya"

Now the church bell did toll, for the sailors so bold
At the Maritime Sailor's Cathedral
The legend lives on, from Chipewwa down
To remind folks of Old Witch's evil
Aaaah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah ....

Interesting and enjoyable read tossed in the "What If" ring

Yay, another addition to the tradition. I enjoyed this, but especially "Sent to their doom on the 'ol Gitchie Goom"

Thanks Glen -- you know I was stalled on this tune for a long while. I would have given up on it had it not been for the fact that the opening stanza was really good

A story that lives on from Michael Pacholek on down on this web site of parody writers. For a few words come quick, with verses quite slick, while others must pull some all-nighters. I liked the line "sent to their doom on the Old Gitchie Goom". Another great addition to this series.
