The Lyrics

After I'd started writing this, but before I finished, The News of the World newspaper was closed down by News International, presumably in an attempt to prevent the hacking scandal spreading further. Claims from former editors Rebekah Brooke and Andy Coulson that they were oblivious of the criminal behaviour and corruption happening on their watch stretch credulity to breaking point, but it seems Murdoch would rather lose his newspaper than his Chief Executive. Hopefully, soon their lies and deception will catch up with them.
Standing in an office in Wapping
In some grubby tabloid newsroom
The man in the Mac
Said, "these phones you should hack
If you want to find out who's screwing whom"

Christ, you know that it's sleazy
But that's the way it must be
And baby, I'm crowing
No one'll prosecute me

Rumours of "celeb" mobile hacking
Causing matrimonial pain
Asked Rebekah Brooke "why"
Then she started to lie
And lied again, again and again

Christ, you know that it's sleazy
Lying to the PCC
And 'cause they're unknowing
She thinks “they cannot touch me”

Deleting murdered teenager's voice mails
Making people think she's alive
Yet still we don't know
Just how low they can go
The low-life who contrive to connive

Christ, you know that it's sleazy
If you're misleading police
The bullshit is flowing
They gonna get off scot free?

Paying lots of money to some dodgy cops
Interfering injudiciously
Straining relations
More allegations
Take denials with a pinch of sa-alt

Hacking phones of soldiers and victims
How immoral have they become
Rebekah says "No!
Of course, I didn't know"
She's low-life hypocritical scum

Christ, you know that it's sleazy
And all that hypocrisy
The way things are going
I’m sayin’ OMFG

Caught the breaking news out from London:
News of the World's gonna fail
Let's say to the press
"Now, you've wallowed in cess
And so it's time to throw your asses in jail"

Christ, you know that it's sleazy
And as this story unfurled
It's time it was going..
Goodbye the News of the World
Yes, the newspaper's closing
Goodbye the News of the World

Phil - I've been following this and it is deplorable (the affair...not the parody). I'm sure that certain people in American are hoping that the fall takes Fox News with it. ;D

If only the domino theory worked on Murdoch's empire.

:-) Thanks guys.. one thing that might just possibly occur: it may happen that News International are declared "not fit and proper" people to run a national TV station, which would mean that not only will their takeover of BSkyB go ahead, and they'll have to sell out the rest of their stake in BSkyB.. shame there isn't an equivalent "honesty" test for running a media outlet over there.. it would be funny if their willful flouting of the law over here forced Rupert Murdoch to get his grubby little fingers out of broadcasting worldwide.. wouldn't it?
