If the Beatles suck, what do you do? And John Lennon being a "liberal", if he was, doesn't justify you being glad he's dead. We'll all be dead one day. But we won't all leave behind some wonderful music like the Beatles.

I was not too keen on the lyrics, but the message you carry is oone that I agree with on several levels. The Beatles are most certainly the most overrated band of all time. After about two months of fairly slow guitar learning I was able to play just about all of their stuff. It is so basic, so childish and it does not explore much in the way of humanity and emotion. True art, and I mean art in general as well as music, should be more than commercialisation.
For art to be true art, it must be delve deep into the human state, and sophisicated methods must be used to bring this across.

From what I've seen from the Anthology and what I've heard from their catalog the Fab 4 started out sounding much like any rockabilly band of the time. They later embraced other styles (like psychedeia) that originated in the U.S. but they expanded on those things as well as recording and studio techniques. George intoduced non-Western instruments to rock'n'roll including the sitar, sparking major influences (did somebody say "Peter Gabriel"?). Sgt. Pepper is the first concept album. The Beatles brought rock'n'roll into another step in its evolution just likethe Rolling Stones spawned hordes of styles themselves by inventing hard rock. Throw those N'SYNC and Celine the Wounded Feline Dion and Lady Ca Ca discs in the trash. Listen to Fab 4 albums and hear rock'n'roll grow and develop. BTW I've seen U2 twice and they are dynamic and a tremendous influence in their own right. They've kept on being innovative during the stagnant dumbs*** 90s and horrible 00s.
