Parody Song Title:

"Wasn't it So Nice?"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

We are old and we are grumpy, so tough! Deal with it! ;-D
Wasn't it so nice when we were younger?
Then we didn't have to whinge and moan
Remember when the cows were good for leather?
Silly how the term P.C.'s o'erblown

You know, the simple days, when cheese was Cheddar
Not Gouda, Camembert or Brie or Feta

Gee and it was nice back when a break up
Mostly meant an iceberg shearing through
We laughed at how Paul's Wings included Heather
Rolled our eyes at shows like Scooby-Doo

When the dictionary was intending
That gay meant happiness and not rear-ending
We didn't think twice

Baby, now kids drink like fish, use dope all day and fight and spew
Way back then there wasn't any awful things for us to do
We were unwary (no visionaries)
Our lives were so sappy (but still we were happy)

It was so damn nice

You know that body shape with chalk around it
I quote you chap' an' verse, we lived without it
Murders weren't abounding...
Wasn't it so nice?

Even though you're both obviously a lot older than I am, (hehehe...; )...)...and I can't relate to the grumpy & old sentiment...this was LOVELY! I also loved the rear ending bit...=)
Peregrin - December 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks everyone for your comments - this one was a LOT of fun to do!

Arwen: Yes, we are older! You will make it there one day and then you too will be grumpy, so look forward to it, it sneaks up on you without your realising and BANG! You are there! Heh heh....

So, NO-ONE has spotted the mistake yet huh ?

very neat M and P - getting old means getting to whinge - esp liked "We were unwary (no visionaries)" - 555
mandamoo - December 21, 2004 - Report this comment
Haha ! Excellent job M&P ! Yes, I too can relate.....though I also recall a joke about a 'Linda' with wings.... ;-)
Reddyrules - December 25, 2004 - Report this comment
Loved it so much - I voted twice on it. 10s are better than 5s. The mistake I 'm sure is how did Paul McCartney get Heather into Wings and leave Linda behind?
Peregrin - January 05, 2005 - Report this comment
Hey! Reddyrules wins the prize! All you have to do is come and collect! Ask for Merry or I at Middle Earth....!

Excellent parody (except I'm not sure how nice it was when the iceberg took down the Titanic).

(SOTM) Good song. Tim McGraw has a song out right now along these same lines (remember when a screw was a screw, and being down meant you had the flu). But he didn't mention Scooby Doo, so you've got him beat in my book.
Paul Robinson - January 06, 2005 - Report this comment
Ooh, I didn't know someone else did a "Wouldn't It Be Nice" parody recently...This one was...really nice (actually, quite a bit better than that)...5's...May the nicest nice do nicely in the (SOTM) contest...lol
Scathe - January 08, 2005 - Report this comment
(sotm) This was deep.
Rick D - January 09, 2005 - Report this comment
I came on this late or I'd have gotten the goof right away. Technically, Lindas' first daughter before Paul (he adopted) was named Heather also and went with them on tour. So you can claim there was no mistake. (He even wrote a song for her that is very hard to find)
Agrimorfee - January 10, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Nice job, guys.

(SOTM) Nice story, pops. (what's the plural of pops?) A round of turnip juice on the house!

(SOTM) So if you win, you're gonna party like it's 1969 then? :-)

Since you're both such huge Beatles fans, I'll play music geek with Rick and point out that McCartney also has a more recent song called "Heather." (This time, presumably, it's about his wife.) It's on "Driving Rain"; call me a sap, but I love the song. The man can still bust out melodies.

Anyhoo. You predate feta cheese and the modern usages of "breakup" and "gay"? Wow. I guess hobbitses live longer than I thought. Heh heh. Fun stuff as usual, wonder twins. My fave bits are the cheddar/feta rhyme and the Scooby Doo eye-roll. Here's hoping you keep writing parodies for another hundred years.

Arrr mateys, this be a -- oh, wait, wrong song. Yep, those were the days, all right. Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Good stuff.

(SOTM) This be nice...oops, wrong song, too...no, that really wasn't a shameless plug for my parody...was it? Couldn't help it...I already commented above on this for the SOTM but I must say once again that is was very, very nice.

(SOTM) "We laughed at how Paul's Wings included Heather" is another one I liked M and P - and what I said before

I can relate to the good old days, but I have a different set than you two. I end up going back to when I was seven, surrounded by eighties songs I couldn't care less about, with a bowl of some sugary cereal in my hand, watching GOOD Saturday-morning cartoons like 'Thundercats', not the crap they have today.

You can't say I didn't try to relate :cp. Nice one Merry and Pip.
