The Lyrics

These lyrics may be sung to the melody of the original verses, effectively disregarding the choruses.
Everybody talks about a new world in the morning
Politicians claim it’s on the way;
Do they have a concept of that new world in the morning?
Or is it just something they like to say?

“Trust me,” says the leader who would like another chance
While foreseeing quite a steep decline.
How can he make headway with a fractious bunch of friends
If that new world vision’s undefined?

Every needy person hopes his vision might appear
Although they cannot tread behind his gate,
As he dangles promises of change in future years
Will any jumping minnows grab this bait?

Might we expose the lobby-groups with arguments so thin
Disseminating quite seductive lies?
Can we put a lid upon their dark malicious spin
Or offshore trusts with fingers in our pies?

Do we have the focus to achieve some cleaner air?
Can our rebuilt sewers soon deliver?
Will we meet new standards of residential care
And once again go swimming in a river?

As these changes happen, shall we smile and clap our hands
When crumbling schools and hospitals are fixed?
Is it really possible to meet our vague demands
Or will reactions be extremely mixed?

Everybody talks about a new world in the morning
Politicians claim it’s on the way;
Do they have a concept of that new world in the morning?
Or is it just something they like to say?
These words were prompted by the closing speech delivered by Rishi Sunak to the 2023 conference of Britain's Conservative Party, in which he strove to distance himself from the austerity-led policies of several predecessors and forge an image of changemaker for himself.
