Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Come and listen to my story 'bout the death of Ron
Throngs shed-ed tears while his body toured on
Began that day Smarty's shootin' for the Jewel
When football changed sound, 'nouncin' Ron had lost fuel

Died, that is. Ice Cold. Li-brar-y

Well the next thing you know Ron's name is everywhere
Most folk said, Ron drove away the Bear
Said ten or twenty is the place his face should be
And his body on a jet DC round to Bev-er-ly

Hills, that is. Votin' fools. Groo-vy cars.

Ron's death mourned this nation, lawdy it was swank
As a frequent flyer, great milage he did bank
Lib'ral folks objected 'bout the coverage on TV
'Cuz Everyone was praisin' Reagan's Leg-a-cy

Nice man, that is. Commie fighter. Pa-tri-ot.

Well now it's time to say goodbye to Ron and his good spin
The prophets say he'll rise again at New York's Mad-i-son
You're all invited to ingest the Greatness said of he
So join us as we spread his word and i-de-ol-o-gy.

Fantasy, that is. Catch his spell. Taxed your shirt off!
He'll be back now, hear?

Tomorrow it will have been three days since his burial. Let's watch that tomb, just in case all the Faithful aren't wrong.

Very good parody, Robert, except for the tax increase implication. There were 3 significant tax rate adjustments during Reagan's 8 years. First, in 1981 there was a large tax cut. The next year, approximately 1/3 of the tax cut was rolled back; and in 1983, there was a payroll tax increase to rescue Medicare. The net effect of these 3 tax acts was neutral for most people, but taxes did increase for some. And I was disappointed that he and Congress tried to reduce the budget deficit with tax increases, not spending cuts. But your implications that the tax increases were large and unilateral (and that Democrats did not want to go along with them) are very misleading.

Thanks all - he's still dead. John, thanks for the compliment. Knew I'd take a hit on the tax line - is it more of a stretch than the claim of Reagan ending communism? I'd have to look this up but I believe while governor of California, Ron presided over the first or second largest increase in history. (Where did I imply that the tax increases were large and unilateral?) Later, bob

Bob, I interpreted your line "Taxed your shirt off!" to mean that you thought Reagan was responsible for large taxes. If you meant something else, please let me know.

John, you interpreted it the line the way I hoped readers would. However, I guess I take exception with your take that I was misleading; although I will plead guilty to not being specific. Your assessment of his tax record is correct, but no "peacetime" president has raised taxes so much on so many people. Later, bob

Thanks Jeff - just caught your comment. Sorry the NYC "meeting" doesn't fit in with your sked. - it was you, right? LIved in Baltimore on Bolton Street (in Bolton Hill) for a few years, so it would have been nice to see a Marylander - one goes through crabcake, Nattie Bow and even Orioles withdrawal.

"Frequent flyer" indeed. Another solid one, Bob. Oh, and didn't I see this performed at some sort of press club awards ceremony?

(SOTM) Well done. I have to really admit I never cared much for Reagan 'til he was old and infirm and easy to feel sorry for...

Nice flow, Bob. You've really perfected this song as a medium to poke fun of things political and non-political alike.
