The Lyrics

Writing a parody of a Broadway number is more difficult than it first appears. In the interest of accuracy, there are a set number of verses and choruses with many repeated lines and instrumental breaks. I've come to the conclusion that, if TT and FG are Lerner and Loewe, I am Ronnie Graham. He wrote many amusing songs, but claimed that writing a musical was beyond his skill. Anyway, he goes! ;D

The most prolific parodist is good man J.A.B. (Hmmmm)
And with or without Fiddlegirl there's only one Tom T. (Hmmmm)
And to my right and left are B.J.M. and Michael P.
Oh oh, oh oh.
Wouldn't that be parody!

All I want is to make you laugh
And to cut my deep stuff in half.
Just good wheat - skip the chaff!
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!
Clever wordplay with lots of pun,
Playful whimsy that's packed with fun.
Something that no-one's done,
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!

Aow, to write about beavers, sheep, and poo
Is my desire.
I would stay away from stuff
That brings down the reader's ire!

I'd avoid the too serious
Sticking with the delirious.
No "ones" mysterious.
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!

Travesty? Parody!
Larceny? Parody!

I'm still trying to find my voice,
Lots of styles so I've lots of choice.
When I find it -rejoice!
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!
Pick a theme song that I can do
Just like John Barry's tried and true
"I Put A Spell On You"!
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!

Aow, those Fiddle and Turtle "classic" writes!
They make me glad.
Someday if it's good I'll try
To send up the Iliad!

Someday when I find my top game
And my snide anger I can tame
I'll put Weird Al to shame!
Aow, wouldn't that be parody!

Like T.T.! And F.G.!
T.J.C.! Mark Scotti!

Aow, wouldn't that be parody!
All of thee!

Eliza - where the devil are my amiright notes?

Great performance of a parody, OMR! I think you should've included yourself in that song because like, J.A.B. and everybody else, you're one of AIR's prolific star parodists! I could imagine you singing this and making a recording someday! 555 stars for this one!

So good and witty, clever he! 5s

"Writing a parody of a Broadway number is more difficult than it first appears". ... try writing the entire @#$% musical. :-) You're off to a great start - really! (Fiddlegirl, where the devil are my 555+++s?)
