In 1948, the General Assembly of the U.N. adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are entitled. The document had been drafted over 2 years by the Commission on Human Rights, with Eleanor Roosevelt serving as chairperson. The principle drafter of the resolution was Canadian John Peters Humphrey. * ARTICLE 1:"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

The Declaration says that all persons are free to practice or change their religion. This is in conflict with Sharia law. There is no means for anyone to enforce any right other than appeal to the courts of the nation which is most likely the source of the violation of those rights. In the final analysis rights, like property, belong only to those who can defend them by force if necessary. Even the most benevolent government can turn rogue. And often do.
