The Lyrics

This is the more demanding of my two submissions using two different original songs of the same name. The lyrics in parentheses take the place of the "li li la la" parts. As for the second coming of the National Malaise, all I can say is...Welcome Back, Carter. ;D

Once the U.S. voted for The Chosen.
They believed his words of Change and Hope.
But alas 'twas merely show and posin'.
We now know it was naught but rope-a-dope.

The New Malaise, my friend. This stuff has got to end.
Each day it seems the public has been had.
With all this blundering - it has us wondering
Was Jimmy Carter's tenure quite this bad?
(For as the country begs, all we get are more regs.
Change your lightbulbs! More rules are truly mad.)

Almost double digit unemployment.
Wave on wave of stimulus and yet
All this new big government deployment
Has only more than tripled U.S. debt.

The New Malaise, my pal. It makes us wonder how
We're back in times we hoped were dead and gone.
Both Dems and G.O.P. - will drown in misery
If we can't find ourselves another Ron.
(No shovel-ready jobs, just bailouts by the gobs -
But you'll be fine if you have gold to pawn!)

Chosen One swore he'd bring us together,
Lectured us "Be civil in discourse".
All this quickly changed to stormy weather.
These ringing words were just a Trojan horse.

The New Malaise, ami. The pledge turned out to be
Another promise shattered into shards.
Instead of real debate - we just hear words of hate.
They play the racial and class warfare cards.

(Must have one set of views. Must vilify Fox News.
Must rub them out! Don't leave the smallest trace.
Comply or we warn you - we'll send S.E.I.U.
And they'll invade your home and your workplace!)

Like the days of Peanut Jimmy Carter
All seems lost. The naton is depressed.
Each new program's worse than a non-starter.
I pray that this can't be our country's best.

The New Malaise, mein Herr. And now Obamacare -
The government intrudes in brand new ways.
We've seen it all before. Late seventies once more.
Who'll save us from our dreaded New Malaise?
(Strange! No hope but LOTS of change!
How can we re-arrage - The New Ma-laise?)

During the previous National Malaise, "Apple" meant the Beatles record lable, ;D

When did I first hear "These ARE the good old days"? I think it was about 8 years ago, and "we thought they'd never end." WOW 555

Nice one OMR-555!!! Now can you do a parody of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" as "I Can't Get No Govt. Reaction"???

It doesn't seem to matter which party, or country, they're from - they never do what they promised. Had to look up the peanut bit - didn't know that. Well written.

Thanks all. Anybody want to bet the one-bomber didn't even read this? ;D

Sorry, OMR, you lost the 1-bomber bet. Maybe because you misspelled "arrange" in the last line and "label" in your outro. And "tripled U.S. debt" is an overstatement.

Unfortunately, the Administration still thinks that the solution is more of the stuff that is not working. Very well done, OMR.

Brilliant work. This sums up the whole Obama fiasco.
