Lester Flatt and Ol' Earl Scruggs,
Sure could pick and sing
On that Grand Ol' Opry they'd appear
Lester strummed a mean guitar,
And Earl's banjo would ring
Pleased them bluegrass fans from far and near

They'd both played with Bill Munroe,
Until they left and teamed up..
Back in nineteen forty-eight, tried their own hand
Had that "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" hit
Took home the Grammy prize for it
With a bluegrass sound that stayed in big demand

Later, on in "Beverly Hillbillies" they'd arrive
By pickin', singin' this shows famous theme
Honored in the Hall of Fame in nineteen eighty-five
Every country artist's favorite dream

In the coal mines of Kentucky, and the California sun
People loved the music they would play
Many albums they would sell, their style was matched by none
But eventually, each went his seperate way..

Then, Earl formed "The Earl Scruggs Revue", it featured his own sons
Took another Grammy prize, two thousand-two
Made International Blue Grass honoree in ninety-one
Starred on Hollywood's walk of fame, too

But Flatt and Scruggs, together..that's the way they will be known
Thru the Ozarks where old timers chaw on plugs
Ears up to the radio, old albums, scratchy tone..
In honkytonks where beer and moonshine chugs,
It's still Lester Flatt, and good ol' Earl Scruggs
