The Lyrics

I was working on a mundane rewrite of "Tom Dooley" when the lyrics of another song kept creeping in until they finally overwhelmed my first draft. I saw someone do this transposition a while back with a couple of Beatles songs. If Halloween can start on Labor Day, surely it's not too soon to begin thinking of Christmas.
(spoken)

Throughout history there have been many songs written to the tunes of other songs. This one is about a reindeer named Rudolph and the companions who mocked him for being different--until he couldn't take it any longer.

(sung)

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Had a big shiny nose
And everyone who saw it
Marvelled at how it glows

All of the other reindeer
Mocked him so viciously
Til they provoked poor Rudolph
Into a killing spree

Met them at the stable
Blood and flying fur
Eight battered reindeer corpses
North Pole Massacre

Then came one foggy evening
Teardrop in Santa's eye
As he pronounced the sentence
"Rudy, you're bound to die"

This time tomorrow
Reckon where he'll be
Outside of Santa's workshop
Hanging from a Christmas tree

Hang down your head, poor Rudolph
Hang down your head in shame
You let the other reindeer
Goad you to kill and maim

Hang down your head, poor Rudolph
Hang down your head and cry
You went and lost your temper
Poor deer, you're bound to die

Poor deer, you're bound to die
Poor deer, you're bound to die
Thanks to Weird Al Yankovic. His masterpiece "'The Night Santa Went Crazy" was certainly an inspiration for this piece.

Rudolph? Going postal??? Perhaps we should have taken that "Misfit" song more seriously... ;)

I should have paid more attention when Rudloph was being sung - I didn't realize what an exciting story it was.

Quite creative, and very morbidly humorous

The technique of taking two songs, and doing each one to the other's music, used to be called "smooshing", and was quite popular here a couple of years ago. Seems to have died out. Perhaps you'll resuscitate it? ... couldn't have picked two more opposite songs! ... and the intro was hilarious, for the above reasons. 555+

Tommy. I had a weird dream the other night in which I heard the Marine Corps Hymn being sung to Deutschland über Alles, or vice versa. I don't really write music in German, but maybe I can do something with that pair sometime.

Don't know why it took me 3 months to find this one, but I couldn't ho-ho-hold back the laughter.
