Song Parodies -> "Rubio, Don't Shut the Government Down"

Original Song Title:

"Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town"

Parody Song Title:

"Rubio, Don't Shut the Government Down"

Parody Written by:

Jeff in Richmond VA

The Lyrics

Them Republicans wanna' shut down the government....right in the middle of election campaign season. We averted it until December, but we'll be even CLOSER to the Primaries. So, please please please........SHUT IT DOWN!!! .......Piss off enough people so we can be rid of this cancer known as the GOP.
You've sponsored laws to hurt the poor, and immigrants beware!
Rubio, I doubt you'd even win in Delaware
The writing's on the wall and there are rumours all around
Hey Rubio, don't shut the government down!

If left to you, we'd have another Middle Eastern war
Your GOP has not learned from mistakes you made before
And we can see that Congress ain't the way it used to be
Hey Rubio, we blame the Tea Party

It's not that hard to see thru all his rhetoric and lies
For the votes he needs to win a campaign, Rubio needs to lie
But it won't be long they'll rue the day when Boehner's not around
Hey Rubio, your Party took him down!

Denying funds for women won't get past the Senate floor
The way they did Obamacare 'bout 80 times before
If voters were smart they'd use their vote and rid us of this clown
Hey Rubio, let's shut the government down!

Oh Rubio, for our sake shut it down.....

Funny how that shutdown in 2014 backfired on the GOP, to the tune of historic gains in the mid term elections

So your solution Jeff is for Republicans to allow Obama to spends us into oblivion? A trillion dollars a year? Obama and the Democrats have more than doubled the national debt to the point of looming collapse and default. Add big Government growth and we're looking at a coming fiscal apocalypse. Blaming Republicans helps us how? And Btw, Rubio isn't even voting due to his campaign run. Why did you pick him?

The pacing doesn't work. Neither does the government. "Women's Health" is nothing more than a code name for federally funded abortion. And the taxpayers don't even collect the proceeds from the sale of the body parts. There was a time when we hanged people for lesser abominations than that. Everyone fears a government shut down because, were it to go on long enough, we'd find out we really wouldn't miss about 90% of the useless drones cluttering up the payroll. If we had to shut down the whole stinking mess just to prevent the dismemberment of one innocent child, it would be worth the cost.

DKTOS, but 555 for the parody. I don't agree with you, but no one should be bombed on ideology. The ratings are for songs, not party affiliation.

a wise man once said "The ratings are for songs not party affiliation" oh as a matter of fact that was just today and the comment is literally right above mine! so as with Rob I don't agree with you in fact Rubio or Carson are looking like good presidential candidates in my opinion but still good writing is good writing! 544

Hey Jon, I think we might be able to start a new trend on AiR. Instead of 111s for parodies that are unpopular based on ideology, religion, personality of author, controversial topics, personal experiences, or tributes... how about a 513 rating instead? If pacing is good, 5. If you don't like the topic, 1. And overall 6รท2 would equal 3! Simple 513 is much better for all than 1 bombing. Problem solved. The Rob and Jonathan bipartisan ratings solution!

^ makes sense to me! I believe that one time I gave a parody I disliked a 511 rating because despite not liking the writing I wasn't about to deny that the author's pacing was spot on however your system of perfect pacing and unfunny writing equaling an overall 3 score seems much more even!

The government has never shut down and never will. The total Planned Parenthood budget is a little over $1 billion per year, which is about $10 for every grown woman. Walmart gets a lot more than $1 billion per year for women's reproductive health and gets no appreciation.

I find it amusing that Patrick (above) describes how the GOP wants to save every "innocent child", but after they're born and the mother needs help (WIC, food stamps, post-natal health care, child care, etc...) they throw the poor women under the bus and defund or take away every resource they have..

Got this earworm playing in my head and thought you might be able to use it Jeff. The song is Forever Young. You know it? Maybe you can use it as Forever Wrong to describe what you perceive the Republicans are doing ;-)

Jeff, to your credit, the Democratic Debate was much more organized than the Republican one with candidates that showed restraint and proposed vastly more detailed plans to fix America than their REP opponents. However, the DEMs seemed fixated perpetually on what America and the world should be, not the reality of what America and the world are at this point. It's the "Perfect World" illusion that Big Govt can take care of everyone and war won't exist if we just talk world peace or let someone else solve foreign matters for us. That has never worked and never will. REPs base is a hand up, not a hand out, smaller Govt not controlling everyone's lives, democracy with limits ( less talk, more action), and the notion that if you strive to better yourself that is its own reward (as opposed to relying on the Govt for everything). I liked Bernie Sanders genuineness and revolutionary zeal... but doubt he can beat Hillary now that he's proclaimed that he is a Democratic Socialist!!! Add that he's putting the onus on the American people to accomplish his revolution, and he makes a weak leader who advocates American isolationism. Doomed to fail. The REPs are still in-fighting, but there are many candidates who can take on Hillary. It is actually Trump leading the Anti-establishment revolution from the Right and despite all cries of Foul he knows how to manipulate the media for 24/7 free coverage the others can't get. And no matter what he says, his numbers are double-digit solid in an arena of 15. If he can last through Spring 2016, he may well be the nominee which will give you endless material for more parodies!!! Good luck Jeff!
