The Lyrics

I was amazed at the number of parodies to this song, and wondered if I could write one of my own. It took awhile, but I finally managed this ode to the highway -- which I'll dedicate to all valiant Road Warriors... and to native East Texans everywhere!
Ooooooooh-

Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches
Driving Southbound 59 in dotted-line hypnosis
Every mile to Houston brings me closer to psychosis,
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches

Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!
Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!

I am a trav’ling salesman for accounts in Region 3
(part of Southeastern Texas) for a Fortune company
It sounds like a big area, but really it’s quite small
Most of the towns in Region 3 are barely towns at all.

Oh!
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches
Driving Southbound 59 in dotted-line hypnosis
Every mile to Houston brings me closer to psychosis,
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches

Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!
Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!

I grew up in North Texas_, I went to college there
Got my degree at SMU, won accolades to spare
Thought I’d be upper management, with letterhead embossed
But I’m behind a convoy in a black cloud of exhaust

Oh!
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches
Driving Southbound 59 in dotted-line hypnosis
Every mile to Houston brings me closer to psychosis,
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches

Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!
Hum diddle diddle diddle, Up little eyes!

I had a cushy office job, but then to my dismay
The Corporate HQ laid me off, and I’ve got bills to pay
Wish I could win the lottery and get myself a life…
(for instance…)
Bid farewell to this drudgery, and maybe to my wife!
(Well, she IS over 42…)

Oh!
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches
Driving Southbound 59 in dotted-line hypnosis
Every mile to Houston brings me closer to psychosis,
Longview, Kilgore, Henderson, Trawick, and Nacogdoches!

Welcome to AmIRight!!!...And congratulations on successfully completing the first of the seven deadly songs (or the Big 7, as they are more commonly known)!!!...555!!!...(BTW, the other six are, in no particular order, "I Am The Very Model Of The Modern Major General", "American Pie", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Blinded By The Light", "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Be Our Guest"...If you aren't already, you should get registered on the InThe00s site, so you can get a 'medal' after completing these and so you can participate in the parody competitions held there...from what I've seen so far, you will be a worthy competitor!!!)

Thanks, Christie and Mark! Thanks to Leo, too-- I'll check out that site. AFW and CUPcakes-- Ha! I should probably have said at the start that I am indeed from Texas, and Hwy 59 IS very boring... but those are the only parts of the song that are true. The rhyme of the OS with "Nacogdoches" was too good to pass up. Besides, I worked a long time to learn how to spell it! ;)

Great job, and Kilgore and Henderson are both common last names in my family. 5s to you.
