The Lyrics

The story of one horrifying visit to the Fox News Network...
The news I must be watchin', it's comin' on at ten
And I will turn on NBC, or CNN
I had to turn on Fox News, and time keeps draggin' on
It's gettin' more apparent, that they're just Dubya's pawn.

When I was just a baby, my mamma told me, "Son,
If it's 'Fair and Balanced,' just turn your tail and run."
But I turned on Bill O'Reilly, just to watch him lie
When I hear ole' Bill a-spinnin', I shake my head and sigh.

I bet there's people out there who must watch this every night
They don't know any better, they'll never see the light
But a few of us know better, from it's spell we are free
But it's "The Most Watched News Network," and that's what tortures me.

Well my remote is out of power, and the channel can't be changed
I'm stuck here on this network, gettin' angry and deranged
Here on that damn Fox News, that's where I have to stay
So I busted the T.V. screen, and I threw it away.

Good parody... The Fox News Channel is about as fair and balanced as the Chinese government.

555 for you! "I turned on Bill O'Reilly, just to watch him lie" is the best line I've read all day.
Rod Worden - April 05, 2004 - Report this comment
Good job, Charlie!

Thanks everyone. I feel this is in the top 3 that I've ever written, if not the best. BTW, Ravyn Rant, that line came to me as I was about to fall asleep. I hopped out of bed, wrote it down, and wrote the entine parody around it. Glad you like it, too!

Great job, Charlie!

The great thing about this country is that there are alternatives--there is an alternative to CNN, and all the networks, and it's Fox. And you don't have to watch it if you don't like it.
Michael Pacholek - April 07, 2004 - Report this comment
Actually, all the other networks are the alternative to Faux News. One gripe though: Dubya is the puppet of the Murdoch Network, not the other way around.
John Jenkins - May 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Good parody, but I agree with Royce. The other networks, CNN, and most of the nation's newspapers are all biased in the other direction, so there is a need for the Fox perspective. And, at least, Fox gives Alan Colmes an opportunity to express the liberal point of view on Hannity & Colmes.
Charlie Decker - May 07, 2004 - Report this comment
Alan Colmes is a caricature of himself. There is a reason why Al Franken always used much smaller font whenever he wrote "Colmes" in his book.

April SOTM - My favorite thing on FOX is the song "Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you, bad boys, bad boys!" Good job, Charlie.
Rick D - May 10, 2004 - Report this comment
Good parody. Song worth mocking.

Nice job. I must have missed something - I always thought Fox News was a parody of the news - you mean it's supposed to be real news? There's a Twilight Zone episode here - you wake up and find out that you can only watch Fox "News" and you can only read the Washington Times or the NY Post - ok, so that's really a nightmare.

'When I hear ole' Bill a-spinnin', I shake my head and sigh.' is Bill Clinton, right?
Mari D - May 12, 2004 - Report this comment
Good job. And I think that Bill O'Reilly is funnier than John Stewart.
Charlie Decker - May 17, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks everybody. I appreciate the comments. Robert J., your scenario is one of the most horrific things I've ever heard. Adiago- Not exactly. Johnny D. - Absolutely. That and Arrested Development.

SOTM: I'll go ahead and give you the 5 for humor, because I'll assume that if I was Tong or Tong-lite I would find it hilarious... Pacing and overall is fine. 5-5-5.

This is really good. I'm not a big fan of partisan-type politics but very well done.
Your Worst Nightmare - May 21, 2004 - Report this comment
Okay, what are you talking about? The only subjective materials in Fox News are Hannity and Colmes and The O'Reilly Factor. And Alan Colmes is liberal. Bill O'Reilley ROCKS.
neminem - May 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Very nice. This was definitely one of my favorites. 5'd.
2nz - May 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Sorry, bro. Most of this went over my head but the pacing was very good and you made your idea fit the mood of the song. 5-4-5 froms me. If you still don't have any votes by closing time, I'll have ya beat... by a whole 1 point ;c).
Spaff.com - May 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Great job, Sir Charles. Some excellent lines in this, my faves being the "fair and balanced" one, the "that's what tortures me" one, and, of course, "just to watch him lie." The icing on the cake is the Google ad I'm seeing for "the vast right wing consipiracy." Heh heh.
Paul Robinson - May 31, 2004 - Report this comment
Charlie - you're right! this is easily one of your best and a very good job. Glad to see someone take on "Bill O'Lie-ly" (I read Franken's book, also. Funny, but also on the mark). 5's and a serious contender in SOTM contest in my book.
2nz - April 13, 2005 - Report this comment
Still well-written and well-paced. And I'm still a hard sell for political parodies. My initial vote still stands but I don't see any reason to screw up yer straight 5s, so I'll just pass on voting this time around.
