Ghost Writers in the Pen

I saw the place just opened on one dark November night
I'd been there several times before but still it was a sight
This wasn't just your average place, this was The Smoking Pen
And just inside I saw them there, the women and the men

Their pens were all on fire and their mouths were working fast
Serge was doing all he could but I wondered if they'd last
A bolt of fear went though me as I got too close just then
A cry that started soft and low, and came from all of them

Their stories might be draining them, they do come with a debt
They're writing hard to keep the pace but they ain't caught up yet
They're bound to write forever 'cause the tale never ends
It's never going to let them go, they cannot make amends

As the writers kept on writing I heard one call my name
If you don't want to end like us then get out of this game
But I came here to tell my tale and my will just won't bend
No matter what my fate might be inside The Smoking Pen
