| Parody Song Title: | "The Town Where I Was Born" |
| Parody Written by: | Patrick McWilliams |
A midwestern city with a heavy investment in tourist showcase projects while the older neighborhoods and business district crumble.
My old hometown's not the same
And the City is to blame
'cause they won't arrest the crackheads and the hookers
On the corner hear a wino holler
"Buddy can you spare a dollar?"
They've gone and changed the town where I was born
A few houses are still standing
Though the arsonists have tried
And they cut down all the trees to build a strip mall
One by one the neighbors vanish
The ones still here speak only Spanish
Se ha cambiado mi hogar
Nostalgically my mind embraces
All the old familiar places
They bulldozed, in the town where I was born
Then I awake and look around me
At the squalor that surrounds me
And realize, there's nothing left worth saving
My friends and I all got the axes
Driven out by rising taxes
We'll have to leave the town where we were born
Some day a funeral hearse may carry
Me to the cemetery
When I next return to the town where I was born
And the City is to blame
'cause they won't arrest the crackheads and the hookers
On the corner hear a wino holler
"Buddy can you spare a dollar?"
They've gone and changed the town where I was born
A few houses are still standing
Though the arsonists have tried
And they cut down all the trees to build a strip mall
One by one the neighbors vanish
The ones still here speak only Spanish
Se ha cambiado mi hogar
Nostalgically my mind embraces
All the old familiar places
They bulldozed, in the town where I was born
Then I awake and look around me
At the squalor that surrounds me
And realize, there's nothing left worth saving
My friends and I all got the axes
Driven out by rising taxes
We'll have to leave the town where we were born
Some day a funeral hearse may carry
Me to the cemetery
When I next return to the town where I was born
