I want to tell you all a story ’bout a Happy Valley college coach
Who for 46 long years thought that he was above it all and beyond reproach
Well a certain “Old Boys Club” may have done him in some people do say
They fired Joe Paterno from Penn State down at Happy Valley in P.A.

The news spread on CNN, the internet and Thursday’s printed press
Of what he could have done and how he should have handled his friend’s mess
For a man who was a leader, by his actions and what he did have to say
It seems that JoPa made a FoPa down at Happy Valley in P.A.

After years of X’s and O’s, this scandal left him with no prepared defense
As a man he knew and loved made a penalty of the highest offense
The red flag was on the ground, yet he let the game continue to play
Now what goes around, come around down at Happy Valley in P.A.

Well the school officials were told, and Joe thought his job was done
But morality is an issue that affects every man, woman, daughter and son
Once you look away, you think the problem was never there
Till you think back in hindsight, then that’s when the message becomes so clear

And so on November 9th, three games shy of a glorious career
Amid the growing furor, brought about the loss of innocence and their tears
An 84-year-old head coach is ousted for not being fit
To work for a State College run by a bunch of Happy Valley P.A. hypocrites

It’s a sad day at Penn State and for morality in the US of A
