The Lyrics

This parody is dedicated to Phil Alexandar-who has written many parodies and gotten alot of votes. I don't expect to ever catch up to him.
I'm leaning on a lamp, it's raining and I'm damp
But I'm not hanging round to steal a line
No, I am not a crook, no matter how I look
I'll tell you why I'm here all the time

I'm leaning on a lamp post at the corner of the street
In case that guy, Phil Alexander, comes by
Oh me, oh my, in case that guy, Phil Alexander comes by
He writes alot of parodies
He always stays ahead of me
But anyhow I guess I can try
Oh me, oh my, I hope Phil Alexander comes by

There's nobody else I would wait for
William Tong's outta reach, with a high score
And he just keeps writing more, more
But if I hog-tie Phil and think as hard as Bill........

Oh, Phil's absolutely prolific and with a joke he's very quick
I've got a coil of rope, it's nearby
I'm leaning on a lamp post at the corner of the street
In case that guy, Phil Alexandar, comes by

Damn! First coffee-over-the-keyboard moment in weeks... but I thought you were catching up, Royce. On second glance: did Herman's Hermits do this song? I'd have said it was George Formby who made this one famous...

Phil, I looked up the lyrics under "Herman's Hermit's"--the song is on one of their albums, but I don't know the name of it right now. Of course, I might be a tad older than you, and I also remember them singing it--seems like two lifetimes ago. Anyway, it's my little tribute to you.

Hey Phil, I looked up George Formby, and you're right. Wow, the things you can learn on this website! I hate to say it, but I never heard of George Formby--guess I'm not as old as I thought? So he wrote it and then Herman's Hermits also recorded it----?

My favourite of George Formby's songs is "When I'm Cleaning Windows" - so much so, I play it on the guitar, and I've parodied it twice :-)... I've often thought of doing a Mussolini parody to this one (you know, sort of "Hanging from a lamppost"), but basically can't be bothered to do the research ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the song...

Now that's cool...writing a tribute parody for someone else (and a very good writer at that). This on the heels of my shameless self-promotion parody (I Write The Songs) =) Good job, Royce.

if anyone warrants being tied to a lamppost its malcolm higgins. I was sitting comfortably at number four on the parody authors list, about 25 ahead of the nearest person, and now a week or so later malcolms got about 30 more than me. And he'll probably pass me in vote count in a couple of days. But i really shouldnt be thinking about this since i have homework to do. And here's a similar parody suggestion for anyone who wants to take it since i must abstain from parody writing until i have more work done - I'm stealing malcolm higgins' computer to those lazy hazy crazy days of summer by nat king cole. If there are no takers in a week then i'll try it myself
