Well John Wayne didn't serve because he was 34 and had family deferment, but he wanted to. Anyway he made films that helped the war effort.

Maybe so, but Wayne really should have said no to playing a hero at Iwo Jima a mere four years after the fact. Iwo was pure hell for everyone who fought there. So that didnt sit well at all with the survivors.

Actually, it did. Duke was always popular with enlisted men and their families. That's why he was so often cast in morale-boosting war films.The only people who insist on making a big deal out of this are those who despise him for his politics.
