"Someone Lucid"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I know the worn-out lines
I've heard them way too many times
That George is outta his tree
And he gets no respect from the loud-mouths
On the left who think that freedom is free

But when it's said and done Mr. Bush has not backed down
From all the murderers
And lefties will not spoil it all
I'm glad there's someone lucid
Like George W.

There's truth and there are lies
And you have to have the eyes to differentiate
But all I'm getting from the left
Is wimpish cowering and twisted words of hate

Though guys like William Tong
Are screaming loud and long
To make George look like a loon
You think that Kerry can?
But he doesn't have a plan
He talks just like a buffoon

The time is right to thank your lucky stars above
For leaders like our "Dubba-u"
Though leftists try to twist it all
I'll vote for someone lucid like George W.

The last thing I would call Bush is lucid. I can certainly think of words that rhyme with lucid that I would call him though. Iraq is a giant mess, and I doubt we're any safer after invading (the opposite is however more likely, since our continued presence there gives the terrorists more reasons to hate us). Despite claims by the administration that the economy is recovering, the number of people running out of unemployment benefits is still higher than ever. He never fires anyone in his cabinet, no matter how bad they screw up. He never apologizes (oh wait, he gave a muffled apology for the prisoner abuses, there's a first time for everything). Sorry, anyone but Bush for me this fall.

I think this perhaps might be more successful if it were less angry, or simply used a more humourous tone.

I probably won't vote for George W., but that won't prevent me from recognizing Royce's parody as a well-crafted and well-written parody - so 555, Royce, you deserve it for this very well-structured parody.

Unapologetically C---Ha! Have you read any of Tong's parodies recently, or Pacholek's political parodies? I expected comments like yours.

Thanks Johnny D

Huh? Was that such a nasty comment? When someone permits comments, I assume they're looking for constructive feedback, not simply obligatory ass-kissing. I didn't think it was bad -- I just thought... well, nevermind. Ok. Sorry.

If you look more closely at the comment I made to you, you will see that I am pointing out the anger in other political parodies on this site; it's lame of you to point to any anger I express, after reading the inflammatory rhetoric in other political parodies-they don't even try to use a humorous tone, babe----read up
U.C. - May 14, 2004 - Report this comment
"Babe?" Why is it "lame" to offer (what I meant to be) constructive criticism? If other parodists use your same style, so be it -- what makes you think I wouldn't offer a similar suggestion about theirs? I was just offering an opinion of how I thought it could be stronger. I mean, take it or leave it, but why take offense at a benign suggestion? Some political parodists want to just sound off and don't care to hear suggestions/comments -- that's why they don't solicit them. But I'm not sure why you didn't do the same thing... Since you're so close to it, maybe someone else here can explain what was so negative about what I said? Because, I'm frankly a bit puzzled...

I'll kiss yer a$$ -- this is sheer genius. Flawless in every way.

UC--It was nice to talk to you, and I'm done now-I said what I wanted to say. Maybe you can write a parody and say what you want to say.
U.C. - May 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Oy, never mind. Right on has the kind of feedback you're looking for...

Must admit that "lucid" isn't a word I'd usually think of to describe GWB... and I don't entirely agree with the sentiment (which won't surprise you, either). But I do like the parody - it's cleverly constructed and makes its point well.
John Jenkins - May 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Very well done, Royce. I think that a lot of criticisms of Bush are appropriate and I do find some humor in some of the parodies that poke fun at him. But, as you imply, freedom is not free, and I think that we are definitely better off with Bush, whose defense of liberty is fairly consistent, than with Kerry, who seems very weak on defense and is more committed to criticizing Bush than formulating sensible positions.

Great job, Royce. 555. I happen to be on the same side of the spectrum as you on this one, but even if I were not the point here is parody - not political view. This one is great!

Royce, it's nice to hear from the other side once in awhile on this site! Good job!
