Original Song Title:

"Green Acres"

Original Performer:

Eddie Albert/Eva Gabor

Parody Song Title:

"Cabrini-Green Acres"

Parody Written by:

Tim Hall

The Lyrics

For those of you not from Chicago, Cabrini-Green is a notorious public housing project located just one mile from the Gold Coast and Michigan Avenue. Most of it is gone, but the memories of infamous murders and corruption still linger on.
do-do-do-do-do-do-do. do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
do-do-do-do-do. do-do-do-do-do. do-do-do-do-do-do-do.

Cabrini-Green Acres is the place to be
Hood livin' is the life fo' me
Broken bottles on every side
Watch gangbangers committin' that homicide

Gold Coast is where I'd rather stay
No dodging bullets every day
I just adore a lakefront view
Darling, I hate you, unfortunately, it's true

do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.

The whores!
do-do-do-do-do
Liquor stores!
do-do-do-do-do
Despair!
do-do-do-do-do
Bad hair!

You is my bitch
(buy a lottery ticket, pray you'll get rich)
CAbrini-Green Acres we are there
do-do-do-do-do
(two shotgun blasts

I have spent a lot of time in the Greens, but have not spent much time speaking with people from the Chi who lived outside of it--which is why I guess I was startled by the content of the song. Though it is funny, it's also quite sad--I'm sure you know that though... ;) In any case, thanks for the response! Take care Siobhan

TV Land is having a Green Acres marathon the weekend of April 3-4.

I don't think by any stretch of the imagination that it is funny. Hateful people always accentuate the negative. Calling people whores and talking about someone having bad hair is suppose to be funny? Calling someone a bitch is suppose to be funny? It just sounds like a racist "song" for lack of a better word. If all you see is despair when you look at it --then why look at it? Are they bothering you? Are they threatening your way of life. Are they coming into your neighborhood and taking your jobs and dating your children? Because those are reasons you give when you hate people for no reason and want to get back at them. You don't know the people there so leave them alone. Go make a parody on trailer parks or something. Something of which you probably know alot about.

Also, there is murder and corruption everywhere. What the hell do you keep stressing that for. Oh, so people don't get killed in suburban areas? You could not have spent any time with anyone in Cabrini. It is not all shoot 'em up bang bang. If that was the case then no one would still be there. It is funny how people continuously want to claim ties to Cabrini and they come there with this notion that everyone is a killer or a gang banger, etc. Give me a damn break. Watch a few damn episodes of Good Times and you will see that for the most part people who live in projects are decent people and that just like any other place you have a few rotten apples. Take your disclaimer and digest it.

Doreen obviously has never watched anything starring the Wayans Brothers, or "The PJs".
Tim Hall - March 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Thank you, Agrim. I guess Doreen does not realize that the writers for Good Times were two WHITE people (Austin and Irma Kalish, who wrote Family Affair). People need not to take themselves too seriously. Besides, she wrote a message to me and I deleted it.
Doreen Van Lee - April 01, 2004 - Report this comment
You are still racist no matter how you justify it. How would you like someone to write something mean and nasty about poor white people you wouldn't like that. Yes, I have seen the PJ's and the Wayans Brothers but they are not calling people whores and the rest of the ignorant crap you wrote. It just isn't funny and I think you know it. Nuf said.

Doreen, thank you for coming back. We at Amiright wonder if you could submit a parody yourself.

She is right, this is stupid it is not funny.
Guy - April 04, 2004 - Report this comment
The pacing had some problems but all in all this is parody and the humor is well received by some more than others. Why do people come on the site to find fault with content of parodies? This is about humor and fun and the writers here will lampoon anything and everything imaginable. Getting on about content on most parodies is like thinking that WWF is for real. Lighten up Doreen and Carl, would you get upset the same way about MAD TV or SNL? Give us a break.

Tim, I liked your parody for what it is, parody. A few good lines in there but like I said pacing was a bit off in a few places. I'm voting 4 on pace and 5s on the rest.

Thank you very much for the support, Guy. BTW, if Doreen an dCarl happen to retun, they should take the time to read my parody of Dylan's Mighty Quinn explaining what Amiright is all about in terms of the First Amendment.

Anytime Tim - It is sad that we have to keep telling people to just enjoy the parodies, ie, most of them and not be real serious about whether the author is a hate monger or not. I've been accused of this myself. It was usually due to the style I was writing. I have since amended that style for the most part but I still get slammed sometimes. It is obvious when someone does a real hate parody out here and we as a writing group usually do police ourselves well.

Oh, yeah, I did watch some of the Green Acres marathon on Saturday. That show is still extremely funny and the theme song from the show is an excellent source to parody.
Lisa Manning, Chicago - April 08, 2004 - Report this comment
Why does anyone have to agree with you, if you put it out there and it sucks -- it sucks. No one says that all of the skits on SNL or Mad TV are funny. Most of the stuff on Howard Stern show is degrading and disgusting and it is just that--degrading and disgusting they want to say that it is entertainment because they want to make money. A parody is suppose to be funny and I have to agree with the other two people who said that iyour parody is not funny. You missed the mark but you want to save face by defending it.

I am going to regret writing this but I am going to do it anyway. This site is wack. Freedom of speech is sad when it allows people to just be hateful. The writers of Good Times were not all white writers there were black writers also. And because some of them were white it doesn't make it right for you to make a "parody" of a housing project of something you know nothing about. Then look how you treat the people who come on your site. You treat them just as bad as you write about them. Someone should use your site as an example of what not to do.

This may be a parody but it hits close to home. I live like 20 minutes traffic time from Cabrini and ganbangers, dodgin' bullets and whores were the norm. Those buildings were bad news. Might not be something to make fun of but it is a parody like he says. Sounds more like a theme song for the place in my oppinion though and I am a black man.
Doreen - January 09, 2006 - Report this comment
Chi-town, get a life. There are whores and gangbangers all over the city of Chicago and in the suburbs. Cabrini doesn't have a monopoly on either of them and neither do black people.
