The Lyrics

this is for all our american war vets, thanks for your sacrifices and i hope everyone enjoys the lyrics
A long long time ago
I can still remember how that gunfire
Used to make me hide
And i knew if i had my chance
I would kick their viet cong ass
And maybe they'd stop shooting
For a while

But the tet offensive made me shiver
With every bullet i'd deliver
Bad news in Da Nang town
And surgeons with their forceps

I can't remember if i cried
When i read about how the colonel died
But I got angry deep inside
The day the Viet Cong died

So bye, bye mistah Viet Cong pie
Flew my chopper to the jungle but the jungle was gone
And the good ol' Johnny was shootin a black minigun
Singin this will be the day that they die
this will be the day that they die

Did you write the minigun manual
And do you have faith in President Johnson
If the General tells you so
Do you believe in lock n load
Can bullets save your buddy's ass

Well I know I cursed Ho Chi Minh
Cause I heard him laughing on a whim
He drank a jug of tea
And he shot those prisoners of war

I was a first lieutenant in the dirt
With an M-16 and a load of muck
But I knew I wasn't all alone
The day the Viet Cong died

I started singin...

Bye, Bye mistah Viet Cong pie
Flew my chopper to the jungle but the jungle was gone
And the good ol' Johnny was shootin a black minigun
Singin this will be the day that they die
this will be the day that they die

Now for 10 years we've been fightin' here
And bullets fly just as much as bone
And that's how it was like before

When the French fought hard at Dien Bien Phu
In a valley deep through and through
With guns that were just way too old

And while the French were looking up
The Viet Cong shot them down
The ramparts were destroyed
No survivor ever returned.

While the chaplain read the book of Kings
The snipers practiced in the dark
And we patched holes in our Sky Lark
The day the Viet Cong died

We were singin'

Bye, Bye mistah Viet Cong pie
Flew my chopper to the jungle but the jungle was gone
And the good ol' Johnny was shootin a black minigun
Singin this will be the day that they die
this will be the day that they die

Helter Skelter in a Vietnamese swelter
The officers planned to get that metal smelter
Eight miles west and goin up fast

We landed near it, on the grass
My squad jumped down and moved out fast
With Sergeant Johnson coming last

Now the smelter road was a bloody trap
So the we all moved out without the moon
We all saw the guards
And we did take the chance

Cause the guards had their backs to the field
The bushes between were the perfect shield

I still recall the details of that field
The day the Viet Cong died
We started singin'

Bye, Bye mistah Viet Cong pie
Flew my chopper to the jungle but the jungle was gone
And the good ol' Johnny was shootin a black minigun
Singin this will be the day that they die
this will be the day that they die

There were all in that field
A whole platoon stuck in place
With the angry corporal talkin' again
"Come on Lieutenant let's be quick!"
"Let's go kill 'em in a tick!"
"Cause darkness is our only friend..."

As I watched him crawl up inch by inch
My hands were grasping my pretty gun
No commie born in hell
Could kill that rifle's metallic smell

And as the Sergeant's knife flashed into the night
To take the guard out of the light
I the guards break into flight
The day the Viet Cong died

I took my aim at one guard's shoes
And i fired, just couldn't lose
So we all blew those gooks away

I went down to the smelter door
Where i'd been told about before
But the door there was firmly locked

And on the side there was no entrance
The sergeants fumed and the privates sighed
But not a word was spoken
We saw a door that was open

And the three men I admire most
Parker, Jones, and Corporal Post
They turned the building into toast
The day the Viet Cong died

They were singin'

Bye, Bye mistah Viet Cong pie
Flew my chopper to the jungle but the jungle was gone
And the good ol' Johnny was shootin a black minigun
Singin this will be the day that they die
this will be the day that they die
