The Lyrics

youtube

"Billy Beer" was a novelty brew sold during the Carter administration in honor of Jimmy's goofball brother Billy. Needless to say, it was pretty rank.
Billy Beer, wasn't quite
Like Coors, no way it's like Coors
When I chugged down, a whole sixpack
Watching TV during the game

Stomach rumbled endlessly
Threatened to revolt on me
Why can't I pee-pee?

Billy Beer, brewed as a fad
Du jour, a lager du jour
It's okay if you're not
Overly discerning at all
It's your call

Do, do, do...
It's not for me

As I turn my car
Down the street to the Quik-Stop where I buy
Brewskis for the guys

Billy Beer, was sold in there
Like Coors, but vaguely like Coors
Fading out when we found
It was laxative in a can
Thus, its ban

Headaches thundered endlessly
We screamed in violent agony
It should be free

Billy Carter made more money off this than his brother the President that got paid the old $200k/year back when. My fave Billy stunt was pissin' in front of the Arab delegation!

From the golden age of beer can collecting. I remember seeing a few cans one next to the Olde Frothingslosh. Probably worth a fortune on eBay.

I collect almost everything, and have a couple unopened cans of Billy Beer, one of Olde Frothingslosh, one of JR Ewing Beer and one of M.A.S.H. beer, all displayed on a shelf in the kitchen along with other weird things like a few cans of Bon Vivant soup, some Felony baby food from Indonesia, some Barf soap flakes from Iran, and an unopened can of Northwoods Egg Coffee. Patrick, Billy Beer is worth almost nothing... great work as always, and 5s. About the products I mentioned, Google is your friend...

Thanks for the interesting comments--I was afraid nobody would remember this stuff!

Of course I remember. All the stunts too along with President Carter's Hustler magazine thing! 555! Can you do more '70s stuff like streaking, disco, mood rings, Anita Bryant and Gays, etc...? I did streaking many months ago. I grew up over 3 decades: late 60s, '70s, early '80s! So much material there!

Billy Beer! Never had any, but didn't unopened six-packs go for a couple hundred bucks each a few years ago? Cultural collectors items. Porfle, do you remember a Saturday Night Live skit, back in the seventies, in which Dan Akroyd played Jimmy Carter and none other than Gary Busey played Billy. It was hilarious. Maybe it's on YouTube.

Rob--those were my decades, too! I'll have to start trying to do more of that kind of stuff. Hops-along--I don't remember that skit, but that's great casting. I wish I'd kept my sixpack of Billy Beer instead of drinking it!
