The Lyrics

When I had a little bitty body
My mama would sit me on the potty
In them old trottin' fields back home
It was down in Lousiana..
Always had a smile
When we'd plop our "Can-a"
By them old trottin' fields back home

And when old Grandpa was a trottin'
Out'a his way - you best be gotten
In them old trottin' fields back home
When he'd been a double chili bowl-er
He'd let out a yell like a Holy Roller
In them old trottin' fields back home..

Farmin' land, a tiny shack two-holer
Nice little cozy half-moon consoler
By them old trottin' fields back home
Cousins came by, Lou and Anna
When they saw our outhouse
Just ate one banana
In them old trottin' fields back home

Well, when old Grandpa was a trottin'
Off his path - you best be gotten
In them old trottin' fields back home..
Sears and Roebuck from Atlanta
Mailed us catalogs - our TP planner
In them old trottin' fields back home

- Ends-trumental -

You would feel a little bit Bipolar
Till you made it to that old two-holer
In them old trottin' fields back home
Halloween, sometimes, kids slanted
Had to clear a path, Christmas, for Santa
In them old trottin' fields back home,
In them old trottin' fields back home

Having grown up largely in the '70s, I especially enjoyed the Sears catalogue line. We kids lived for the Fall arrival of the X-Mas catalogues filled with toys. The rest of the year it was sneaking peeks at the lingerie section with mom watching us boys like a hawk. I don't think our mom ever entirely bought it that we wanted to look at tools and mini-bikes! ;-)

I'm old enough to remember those outhouse days out in the country. Not a favorite topic but well-handled anyway. Some cool rhyming ideas: trottin'/gotten; two-holer/bipolar/consolar/chillie bowler. I wouldn't have thought of Atlanta/planner, but I see how it works down south.
