Song Parodies -> "Just A Witty Ditty Writer"

Original Song Title:

"Have A Holly Jolly Christmas"

Original Performer:

Burl Ives

Parody Song Title:

"Just A Witty Ditty Writer"

Parody Written by:

Old Man Ribber

The Lyrics

"An unexamined life is not worth living." - Socrates. "You want me to figure out who Old Man Ribber is?" - Todd Whitford. But since it's Christmas In July, I'll take a stab at it. Does my alter ego have a realistic view of his limited abilities, a talent for self-deception, or a practiced alibi for taking the path of least resistance? How would I know!! Enjoy the song. ;D

Just a witty ditty writer
Is what I am on this site.
Artistry is tough for me
When doing amiright.
Just a rhyming/timing writer
And a human Hallmark card.
No savant - a dilettante,
I work but not too hard.

Me? Cheery as can be,
Often to excess.
All get good words to see -
Even for a big mess.
Just a happy sappy writer
With a touch of skill and sly.
Final tally - just a Tin Pan Alley
Writer - am I.

Just a slacking hacking writer,
I have tried but it's no use.
No Shakespeare is this guy here,
Not even Doctor Seuss.
Just a halfway laughplay writer,
Not a Milton or John Donne.
Erudite? Well maybe slight
If I can still have fun.

Oh gee - for parody
Seems to fit my style.
Flinging barbs flagrantly,
Trying to make you smile.
Just a giggling niggling writer.
I'll accept what I may be.
Good ad-libber! I'm just Old Man Ribber
Here mod-est-ly!

O.K....maybe I really don't see myself as this entirely. As sixties anti-war activist Jerry Rubin's mother could have said - "Me thinks he PROTESTS too much!".

You excel in modesty. You should be proud of your humility. Few could have done it so well. You deserve to brag. Some will say it's the fault of the education system, but I have read a lot more of your material than I have of Milton or Donne. And I like it a lot better.

Nothing wrong with blowing your own horn, as long as you're acrobatic enough..(rim shot) and you certainly are that, parody-wise.
